Nappy Rash

Our dd is 16 months and has a serious nappy rash that just seems to be getting worse. She's teething really bad, although I don't know if there's any truth in the connection? Anyway, she's been lucky never to suffer from it as yet, and I'm just wondering whether anyone has any tips other than using bepanthen and getting air to her bits when possible?!
Thanks x

metanium, yellow tube, can get it from sainsburys or any other chemist. its brilliant, clay based so stays on and does what it needs to do, bit messy (as clay based) so have wipes ready for your fingers, don't need much but one application will solve rash! i swear by it for both my dc, nothing else works like it! good luck, i sympathise... thankfully i found this magic ointment! still use it now, dc2 is 2!

Mine had nappy rash when teething

I second metanium. My BIL is a paed nurse and they use it on the wards

Others who haven't found metanium useful recommend egg whites

If you have no success after a few days - take to the GP as she could have a fungal infection.

Before you put the cream on, make sure her skin's dry - use a hairdryer on low if you can

Are you sure it's nappy rash rather than thrush? I was at my wits end with DD's nappy rash - tried every cream going, air-baths etc...

Then my mum said, "That's not nappy rash, that's thrush. You used to get it all the time as a baby. Put some Canesten on it". It was gone in two days.

Btw, Canesten is just branded clotrimazole cream. Any own-brand clotrimazole from Boots/supermarket etc will do the job and is much cheaper.

My Hv gave me a prescription for metanium, saves you 3 quid! I also like boots own zinc and castor oil cream. Slather it on really thick as it doesn't stick like sudocrem (one of the reasons I like it) and it will also cover weepy patches sudocrem and metanium don't stick to.

i am seconding the clotrimazole advice. DD's nappy rash was just awful and nothing seemed to be helping it. The nursery manager ended up calling me and telling me she thought it was thrush and advised me to try clotrimazole so i bought some on the way home from work. cleared it up in no time which was such a relief.

you can tell if it is thrush by the appearance of sattelite rashes. Bascially little spots of rash that are away from and not linked to the original sore bits.
