Hi All,

Really wanting to use cloth nappies with my baby (due may) as our monthly budget is going to be very low and i dont want the worry of buying disposables.

Problem is the cloth nappies i have seen are sooo expensive to buy start up kits and i dont have that money spare.

Wanted Tots Bots/Pop in Nappies but they have a birth to potty price of £250ish. (ps was going to test them before buying pack lol)
Now thinking terrys. But really worried about how easy they will be to use.
Also nappy lady still quoted like £200 for a terry kit (bamboo terries). Not including newborn muslins or bigger wraps.

So lost and dont know what to do.
Sorry if i am waffling.

if you don't mind second hand you can pick up some really good stuff on the cloth nappy tree and ebay usually has some bargains too although you are not supposed to sell used nappies on ebay.

Your council may offer a cash back scheme or a trial pack, start by contacting them and keep an eye out for second hand. If you buy one a week or one a fortight then you will have built up quite a stash before the baby comes.
Some companies - little lamb for example offer a payment plan as well.
Birth to potty have the advantage of lasting all the way through but if you go for sized you can sell the ones your baby is growing out of to fund some new sizes.
I like Cloth Nappy Tree for buying/selling as there are no fees and the buyer usually pays the paypal (unless price is quoted as all in).
Totsbots have started selling cloth nappies in large branches of Tesco so you could use your clubcard points if you have any of those.
Prefolds are also very cheap, there are various folds you can try and as long as you have a decent wrap they can be good.
Have a look at ebay as well, you aren't supposed to sell used nappies but sometimes you can pick up bargains where a mum has splashed out on an full kit and either given up entirely or that particular style hasn't suited so they are used or prewashed but in very good condition.

Terries are probably easier than you think to use, my friend uses Bright Bots terries and absolutely swears by them.

She uses a nappi nippa so no faffing with pins and uses a Motherease Rikki wrap and her DS's bum is bomb proof!

Why don't you start off with a pack of terries (practice the folds on a teddy whilst still pg!) and then if you really don't get on with them think about shelling out on the more expensive nappies.

Otherwise, have you got any NCT sales near you? You can check here
I went to my local one recently and there were 3 full pre-folds kits there for good prices, in very very nearly new condition, might be worth a try.

I was also going to suggest buying second hand, especially while you are deciding which ones to go for.

If you do want new and decide to go for terries, I saw a great deal the other day. Will try and remember where I saw it!

I got a dozen lovely bamboo 57cm squares for £3.30 each (sale price) plus 2 nature babies wraps: total was about £50. From littlepants website; same lady offers advice service. Only got them last week - there might still be some left. You'll need more than that, but I thought it was a good start and I'll get some muslins before baby comes and then some other nappies as we go along.

I have read on other threads that you can get by for quite a few weeks on muslins and wraps alone, so you don't need to outlay for all your nappies at once. I'm going to wait and see how big the baby is first and how I get on with the terries and muslins. Have a real fear of spending £200 on a birth to potty system that just doesn't suit me or baby for whatever reason not possible to predict.
