Hi charmed. I'm a former journalist and now a sahm from Brighton.

Welcome to Mumsnet.

Do you like Hastings?

Charmed · 22/09/2005 16:25

Hi,

Hastings is ok, been here all my life . I would eventually like to move more towards the country but will have to finish my degree first lol....

I was in Brighton yesterday at the disability team at Sussex uni.

How do you like Brighton?

I like Brighton but am thinking of moving somewhere outside in order to get more space.

Hi, whats it like being a student and a mum?

hatstand · 22/09/2005 21:32

hello charmed. I'm a student mum too - as of today anyway. I'm doing a masters in London and very excited about it. Been rather a long time since I had the prospect of indulging myself so much.

Hi kim,

It's very hard especially as I am also disabled having Lupus, Hughes, Osteoporosis and Scoliosis and carpal tunnel (am greedy lol) but luckily I have the best hubby as he helps me as much as possible.

He will look after the children or take them out if I need peace and quiet.

I am in the process of applying for a disabled students allowance and when I saw the lady the other day she said they should grant me a laptop so when the chronic fatigue sets in I can take it to bed. They should also grant me a proper back chair and a mini disc recorder so I can record my lectures....

Lots of love
Mel

good grief charmed! you don't do thinks by halves! I have MS but at the moment it is hardly affecting me at all. My last relapse was early spring - I am just hoping I get through the next year without one. A year-long course doesn't really give you much scope for falling behind.

Yeah Brighton can be a bit crowded but then its got city status now and also the uni which alone houses 20'000 students a year now phew lol...

Hi there,

Oh how exciting. Journalism is a big step so well done to you is Edinburgh a big uni?

The good thing about Hastings being a new uni is that the lectures are pretty small...

Hi Hatstand,

Poor you I fully appreciate the symptoms of MS as some of my lupus symptoms are the same. The fatigue is the killer for me, well along with the flu like symptoms and the pain but hey ho im still smiling just lol....

I am at the moment waiting to hear back from my consultant as I have a pool of fluid (they call it a cyst) in my hand which needs a steroid injection

Hey Charmed

I am at Napier Uni which is quite big but my class is fairly small. There are 50-60 in my year and we are split into 3 groups. I tried a degree before and on that course there were about 200 people!

I am really pleased today as my dd (17 months) has been doing her settling in periods at nursery and it's gone very well. One of the women asked today if she had been to nursery before (she hasn't) as she has taken to it so well. Such a relief!

You must be getting a lot of grants to help you financially, I have had a few as a single parent, need all the help I can get! But I hate those forms!
