Here we go again..... im into my second year and have been set a research project on a health/social related subject.

Have decided on domestic violence and its effects on children.

I have stacks of info here, but always get such good info from people on here, just wondering what the general idea on this? Does is have an effect, what kind? etc.

or do you think its a bit too broad a subject for me to do??

What about the effect on children when one parent ignores the abuse that the other parent is giving?

What about the effect on children who haven't been directly abused but have seen their siblings abused?

Have you had a trawl of the Women's Aid, NSPCC and Children's Society websites? Maybe something on there might spark you off in a narrowing direction?

tiredemma · 22/09/2005 13:36

these are good ideas, they narrow down my reseach obviously.

i think it's an excellent idea tiredemma. ie does domestic violence damage children even if they themselves are never hurt. and if so,how. men's groups tend to say that a man's domestic violence should not affect his rights re kids, buti say, you abuse the mother, you abuse the kids.

Cam · 22/09/2005 15:28

The NSPCC say that domestic violence between parents is emotional abuse to child witnesses

steffee · 27/09/2005 16:09

The law's changing from this year to say that it is child abuse for children to witness violence between their parents. Enough to put them on the 'at risk' register. Not sure what category it would be though, possibly neglect?

Hello you

I will be no help cos i have to decide what to do for my study skils short talk and research assignment yet.

Cam · 27/09/2005 16:26

emotional abuse I think steffee

Caligula · 27/09/2005 16:30

It's reasonably well documented that children who witness violence between their parents have emotional and social problems - trouble at school, low self-esteem, etc. etc.

I'm pretty sure I've come across reports that also state such children are disproportionately more likely to later on be involved in anti-social and/ or high risk behaviour - early and unsafe sex, illegal drugs, truancy, etc. Can't for the life of me remember where I've read that though.

Hi nutty, was you at college yesterday?
I asked someone and they said that they didnt think that you was, never mind if you was, ill bring book in next week.

for study skills I did a talk on the 5 a day fruit and veg initiative, loads of stuff on the net about it. Other people did- asthma, epilepsy, bone marrow donor, autism, anorexia- and some bloke id a talk on tropical fish?!

ill try and think of some others for you. Did your tutors turn up on tuesday?
