green poo...should i be worried?

My exclusively breastfed ds2 is 11 weeks old and his poo has been green on and off for about a week, then consistently dark green at every nappy change for the last 2 days. He doesn't have a temperature and seems o.k and generally smiley but more hungry than usual. I had been feeding him every 2-1/2 hours day and night but now he cries for a feed sometimes every hour. I try to feed from one boob at a time to ensure he's getting fore and hind milk in one feed and feed for at least 10 mins. I am taking him for his (very late) 6 week check tomorrow but i'm all jittery suddenly this evening for worrying....anyone experience similar?

My DS was like this at around a similar age - I never did get to the bottom of it though. I just made sure I was block feeding - starting each feed on the same side I finished the previous feed on - to make sure he was definitely getting enough hind milk. It resolved itself after a few days but no harm in you mentioning it at his check up tomorrow.

Thanks for reassuring words. I swing between worrying that he's having a growth spurt and my milk's not keeping up to panicing that i'm over feeding him and the colour is a sign that he's over fed and his gut can't cope. aaargh - tiredness I guess is making me lose all my instincts about what he needs...

We had lots of green poo, for about 2 months, it stopped then I gave up cows milk and dairy. I am using goats milk instead. Just ordered some goats milk formula online to combat e few green poos he still has (dh does a forumla dream feed).

Might be worth considering. The green poo didn't worry ds2 though at all!

The Baby Poop Decoder!!

Crazy evening with lots of frantic feeding - finally settled at 10pm then slept through til 2.30 which is a first - long feed and then another at 5....most sleep i've had since he was born! poos much more on the mustardy scale of green this morning so i can only think that it must be linked with frequency of feeds of late and fore/hind imbalance - night of 2 good block feeds helped - thanks IckleJess. So good to hear from all you other green poo eventers out there. I did wonder about food intolerance thing Zombie and was praying that i didn't have to go down the giving up dairy route as i do like my builders tea and yoghurts. I've ordered some goats milk formula too (as occasional night out back up) funnily enough too cos i used it with DS1 - he had eczema badly from birth and i avoided dairy for first year.
Tee - baby poop decoder was great - thanks!
Mjinhiding - would love to get out to breast feeding groups but i live way out in the countryside and don't drive - have to rely on lifts and DH away in the week. I really am gonna have to learn - wish I'd done it before the kids arrived - doh...

My DS had green poo from time to time. I never got to the bottom of it (sorry) and he never seemed any worse for it. The HV said not to worry (weight gain was always perfectly satisfactory) so I didn't.

He was a frequent feeder too. I don't remember when it stopped, so it can't have been that much of a problem I suppose.

Back from check up. Doc said green poo not a prob when baby gaining weight etc (ditto Quenelle), Its funny - when i broached the subject of fore/hind milk he said 'so you're bottle feeding then, i said 'no bf' and he said 'so what's this heinz milk then?' (grin)
