best booster/insert recommendations

Hiya

Can you recommend a booster/insert to improve absorbancy of bumgenius v3? Been using these for nearly 2 years but DS is suddenly wetting through.

I think hemp is probably best for under microfiber?

Ideally less than £3 each as not a lot of spare cash

Hemp is good, as is bamboo. I have a couple of bamboo terry squares - they were about £2.50 I think - and they fold into 3s and fit nicely in most nappies. They are very absorbant for the size and won't add too much bulk either.

You can also get hemp inserts which look good although I haven't tried them - have you seen the Easy Peasy hemp boosters here? (near bottom of page).

I just got a load of hemp boosters to use with my Bumgenius, having heard they improve absorbency... and within 15 mins DD was completely soaked!

I'd put the hemp as the inner layer, with the big microfibre on the outside (and left out the small microfibre). For the next nappy I swapped these around and it did seem to improve the situation. But was the hemp's complete inability to soak up the pee with the first try just a result of me not washing the new boosters first? It literally just spilled out the side!

Any tips gratefully received - otherwise I'll just use trial and error Grin

Zucchini - hemp needs a few washes - usually 8 or so, to get up to full absorbancy so they wont work brilliantly well for the first few times. You will probably see a yellowish tinge to the boosters when they are new, once this has faded to cream then you are usually good to rely on them. That said, worth bunging in the nappy as anything is better than nothing.

Hemp works like long term storage for pee, it is good at holding on to a large amount in its fibres. What is isnt good at is working like a sponge and soaking up that initial flood. So microfibre next to bub and hemp behind that.

My two year old has had boosters in his bumgenius for over a year now, and I just had to add that small microfibre back in too so he has 3 layers! Still slimmer than some of his two parters though.

Eggbrokenoff - easy peasy boosters are fab, thicker and better than a lot of others on the market.

If you want a few, then worth googling easy peasy anppies and looking at their website directly as they do 5 for a tenner and free postage too! Website looks a bit suss as is just a string of numbers as the http address when you go to it, but have ordered from them before with no issues.

We use bambinex bamboo boosters & they're much more absorbent than the microfibre BG boosters. They're really narrow/slim-fitting as well so reduce the overall bulkiness of the nappies & means the wrappers don't gape around the legs & leak. They do take a bit longer than the MF boosters to dry, but we don't have a tumble dryer & they still dry out sat on the radiator overnight.

Thanks everybody (and sorry for taking a while to check the thread!)

Have now given them three washes and have put the hemp as the outer layer and it's definitely better, so looking forward to the super absorbent version by the time they've been washed even more times!
