Dummies or thumb?

Hi everyone,
My name is Anita Frediani, and I'm a 4th year Speech and Language Therapy student. For my dissertation I am looking at trends in dummy use and thumb sucking, and would appreciate you taking a few minutes to fill in my questionnaire:

Thank you in advance for your time,
Anita

I couldn't. Ineligible due to living outside the UK.

Why only parents of children under 4?

willali · 17/11/2010 12:10

agree mummytime - I have had one thumb sucker and one dummy addict but they are both older now

Poogles · 17/11/2010 12:25

Done although not sure what you will get out of it! DS1 is a massive thumb sucker. never took to dummy and started sucking thumb at 6 months when I stopped BF. DS2 was 'encouraged' to have a dummy from an early age as it is easier to take a dummy away than a thumb!

Mine are both under 4 but don't suck dummies or thumbs. Is it worth filing out anyway or not relevant?

AnitaDMU · 17/11/2010 16:06

Roo83 - yes still worth filling out, you'll get a shorter version of the questionnaire but I'll still get data out of it :)

And those asking why it's under 4 only, it's because I had to have a cut off age. In theory, the longer it is since the child had a dummy (or didn't), the less accurate your memory is of details about it - e.g. you're more likely to remember more how often your child used a dummy if it was only 2 years ago rather than 5. Not saying that you wouldn't remember, but in theory it makes the results more "reliable". Sorry!

Thanks so much,
Anita
