Priceless tantrum!

Just had to write this one down, a very big challenge to keep a straight face throughout!
Tonight ds (4.7) was badly behaved and lost out on having bedtime stories as a result. Cue a massive screaming tantrum/reasoned argument (in his mind) as to why he should have stories reinstated:

(all shouted at top of voice while crying and throwing himself around the room) ds: I am allergic to not having stories mummy. It makes me sick if I don't have them. I'm very allergic. Me: well stories are not on offer now but you can have a cuddle and get into bed. ds: I am allergic to cuddles too. They make me sick too. I'm only not allergic to cuddles when I have them in the morning. I need a story otherwise I'll be sick, I've got a headache already and it's not even because of all the shouting. (I sit there quietly waiting for him to calm down) What are you mummy, some kind of little old lady who can't hear what little boys are saying? No, you are a mummy and it's your job to listen to what I have to say and give me stories when i need them. That's your job, have you forgotten it?
(dh takes over for a sec while I give dd a kiss) ds: I want to speak to mummy about my stories, its important that I speak to mummy now. You must get out of my way now daddy, otherwise I will be sick on you. What would you do daddy if I just pushed you out of the way to get to mummy? Would you let me have a story then? What do you want me to do then? Do you want me to push you out of the way? Do you want me to be sick on you?

Sometimes you just have to laugh!!

I love that Grin! Am full of admiration that you remained calm and kept a straight face!

Funnily mine also get headaches which are nothing to do with shouting . . . must look more closely at what they are allergic to Grin

Excellent!

Me " Lunch time come on"

Me "dd1 come and have your lunch"

DD1 (4.1) "If you say come here 3 times I'm not going to eat my lunch"

Me " Come here"

Much crying and wailing that she is not going to eat her lunch, before giving in and deciding that she is hungary. Its not only parents who need to think before making threats

SMummyS · 15/11/2010 20:35

LOL. He's very bright. Well done for not smirking. I've had to walk away before when DS has been like that just so he doesn't see me smiling.

honeybeetree · 16/11/2010 20:00

Brilliant! My DS is 4.8 and similar things happen (with a rather less patient and self-controlled parent!). I'm hoping I'll be able to come and add to the thread when my memory chooses to work

notnowbernard · 16/11/2010 20:28

Grin v funny

DD2 once had an epic meltdown (was at least 30min) when we were reading nursery rhymes. She wanted SUKEY to put the kettle on, not POLLY

Inconsolable Shock

pointythings · 16/11/2010 22:11

fab Grin

My DS used to threaten 'Mummy, if you don't stop telling me to tidy up then I am going to throw ALL of my toys in the bin' Hmm Um, ok then...

Sops · 16/11/2010 22:48

Glad that amused so many of you.
Just remembered that last week dh and I got a classic "You two are the worst parents I've ever had!" for laying down the law over something or other.
Does anyone think it would be wrong for me to record one of these outbursts on my phone (and show it to all my friends)- would it scar him in later life?

Ha ha.

DD (3.10) had a 20 minute screaming fit for a stoooooorrrryy the other night after I stuck to my pledge not to read her one if she didn't behave at bathtime.

As the tears were still flowing and her throat was hoarse from screaming she looked at me and said with complete belief "but I've been so good" Grin
