Hi,
I'm 24 and am in my 2nd year of a BA course at uni. I've also just had my first baby (3 weeks tomorrow!) and feel like I need to get back into study mode with deadlines looming (though I can apply for extenuating circumstances if I cant get things done in time). I'm quite lucky in that my uni are very supportive and theres a few other girls on my course who have just had babies themselves so we can support each other.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you cope with the workload?

Hello! I'm not quite in your situaton - I have a 6 y o and an 8 yo and am also doing a BA course. In my final year - eeeek!
How are you finding it all?

Hi, I had my baby halfway through my phd and went back to study when she was 5 months... I also did my undergraduate degree with a four year old as a single mum and then met someone new and got married during my masters!

Dd is now 1 and I have found through trial and error to make sure you rest as much as you can during the day and maximise your evenings. A good sleep routine is essential to keep you sane and learn to study in short bursts... Keep your tutors informed and ask for help when you need it.

If you can, take up offers for childcare/babysitting too!

Good luck

Not a student mum. I am a lecturer with 1 DS and 1 more on the way, and have had 4 students become parents since I've been lecturing (all men as it happens). Please don't shrug off those offers of extensions. If you were in paid work you wouldn't dream of going back to work after 3 weeks.

Being a new parent is shattering. Deadlines make it harder to be a parent and kids make it harder to meet deadlines. Cut yourself some slack, plenty of your classmates will be milking a small cold, you are taking on two huge challenges at once. Keep your lecturers up to date on how you are doing (don't spring a crisis on them from nowhere), many of them will have kids of their own and will be very sympathetic. Finally, be strategic - prioritise the important deadlines (that carry the highest marks), not just the easy ones.

Good luck and enjoy your new baby!
