What's the best day for a party?

I'm about to book a hall for ds' birthday party but can't decide which day will be best. It's going to be the weekend because a lot of the parents I know work, but can't decide between Saturday or Sunday.

The reasons I can think of against each are: one or two of the mums work Saturdays so it'll be up to the dads to bring their children along (nothing against dads, but I know dp would be a bit reluctant to go without me), and that's also the day a lot of people do their shopping, but Sundays might be people's 'family' day and they might not want to give it up (Sunday dinner, church, etc). What do you think????

Ds will be 3 so there's no swimming/karate clubs to worry about. The timing will be either 10-12 or about 1-3, but probably the morning as ds & most of his peers still need a post lunch nap/quiet time and I don't want him being too tired or overexcited to enjoy his big day.

Please give lots of opinions as I'm possibly the world's most indecisive person and I need to decide soon!! Thanks.

Unless you've got lots of churchgoing friends I'd go for Sunday morning - no "activities" of older children to clash with, no shops open for those working parents to dash off to with list long as arm, something jolly to get up for, and time for all the little ones to have a nap afterwards.

(I'm doing dd's birthday (her 5th) on a Sunday.)

I disagree, there's lots of the young people at our church who frequently miss the morning service due to activites, sports, Duke of Edinburgh Award, etc etc.

I'd say a saturday....more people come for some reason in my experience.

I guess it depends on the older children and where you are- there are far more activities on Saturdays here than on Sundays, so I tend to go for Sundays for that reason. I think binkie's idea is good, leave time for naps afterwards. Hope it goes well!

We have had ds's party on Sunday twice. Gives me Saturday to organise things. Never had a problem with people not being able to come.
Just make sure people do know it's Sunday and not Saturday - although I was clear on party invitations, 2 children did turn up a day early in fancy dress!

Around here lots of kids (including mine) play rugby/football on a Sunday morning - I would always prefer Saturday both for organising and attending.
