Am complete cloth nappy virgin as ds is 23mths and used disposables all the way through. This time DB due in dec and would definetely be interested in cloth if I can get the cheaply. So what do I do. What do I buy? What are waterproof covers? How many would I feasibly need?

starlover · 17/09/2005 21:37

asgree tots wraps rubbish!

misdee · 17/09/2005 21:38

ok, as soon as i make sure i have enough medium wraps, then will leave a message for you. they are wash worn, some patterns have faded, but they work. so they will more than likely be cheap.

wheresmyfroggy · 17/09/2005 21:39

Dont you start too, i've already got dw constantly banging on about moving down that way

starlover · 17/09/2005 21:39

i definitely think you should. london is very dangerous.
and you'd be nearer me... surely that should clinch it?

Nemo1977 · 17/09/2005 21:39

Thats great misdee thanks..to be honest main reason I am going for cloth this time is finances so cheap is great..lol

OP posts:
wheresmyfroggy · 17/09/2005 21:40

London isn't dangerous, it just seems that way if you live in the sticks

frogs · 17/09/2005 21:41

Miaou, did you get my email re a modest offering of outgrown baby vests etc? I've also just found some old but still functional ME velcro wraps in various sizes -- any good to you? (didn't know you were a clothie convert!)

Email me if you're interested, I'm trying to cut down on MN time!

NannyL · 17/09/2005 22:52

Just to say i wouldnt bother with cotton bottoms birth to potty pack (or any cotton bottoms prefold + wraps!)

There are lots more of much more absorbant much better nappies... that fit more snugly / absorb more and are easier to get on with!

I persoanlly would go for a shaped nappy and a wrap.. ones i relaly like are:

kissaluvs (expensive but my fav!)
ME sandys (ohh soo soft an V absorbant)
Tots unbleached (best for night time!)
MEOS (i dont see HOW they can be absorbant enough for a toddler... but lots of people insist they ARE, are lovely on a small ish baby!) would definitley have a few of those as well

And i find motherease wraps the best as well!

starlover · 17/09/2005 22:57

nannyl, you can get fabbo snap-in boosters for meos...
or you can use any old boosters if you want, but the motherease ones are nice.

You ladies all seem to know what you're talking about here, so can one of you tell me what actually gets flushed down the toilet with each of these options? We're not on mains sewage, and aren't really supposed to throw anything non human-waste down the loo, so this could be a deciding factor for us as to whether to go with disposables or washables.

Please keep it simple - have never changed a nappy before and know very little about the whole subject!

starlover · 17/09/2005 23:09

ok well unless you are using paper liners then all you will flush is the poo!

Tabs · 17/09/2005 23:18

Thanks Starlover. So what are the alternatives to paper liners?

Should have said we are allowed to flush loo paper down the loo, so if paper liners are only pretty much the same then I guess they should be fine too?

Pixiefish · 17/09/2005 23:42

Tabs- fleece liners are what I use. I pop the solids off them down the loo, sometimes I have to hold one corner of the liner and flush and then pop it into hte bucket with the nappies

Nemo1977 · 18/09/2005 09:51

If i have bought motherease nappies do i have to get motherease wraps???? Also how many nappies go with a wrap and where do I get the liners from?

OP posts:
munz · 18/09/2005 09:58

sorry nemo - quick hijack - girls if u get fleece liners as opposed to the paper ones, how do u get the runny poopy off? - am thinking just rince under the tap with baby soap and then soak in the pot with nappies? - will be washing every other day - unless we use tonnes up!

NannyL · 18/09/2005 10:08

Nemo

you dont have to use motherease wraps.... but i think most people agree that motherease wraps are the best!

(i also like cotton bottomas as well)

Nemo1977 · 18/09/2005 10:16

nanny I have bought motherease wraps from somone on here. The onesize ones which seemed to make the most sense to me..lol

Have also bid on some fleece liners which I assume i just rinse then throw in machine with nappy?

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 18/09/2005 10:33

ok your all probably getting bored of me now..but what size wraps do I have to get to go over the motherease one size?

OP posts:
misdee · 18/09/2005 10:33

have 1 wrap atm spare. when is baby due?

Nemo1977 · 18/09/2005 10:34

misdee not till dec. jusat trying to sort myself out. Are the wraps just one size?

OP posts:
misdee · 18/09/2005 10:41

these are the small size, dd3 is about 15lbs and ios just outgrowing them at 7months. then come the medium size, medium/large, large and x-large.

one you have the MEOS all you have to do is buy new wrpas once they are ougrow the smaller ones.

i think i will have about 5 wraps for you, once i've got enough mediums.
