How can I talk to my friend about this without coming across all judgy and critical?

I started writing this thread and it disappeared so sorry if it turns up again!

A lovely friend of mine has a DD who has language/speech problems. She is quite difficult to understand and finds it difficult to concentrate/listen. She has had hearing tests and is seeing a speech and language therapist and school SEN are helping so that side is all sorted.

However, at home I've noticed the tv is on constantly, very loudly. Their living/dining area is open plan and at meal times they sit at the table gawping at the tv. Homework is done with the tv blaring in the background, same with reading. Everything they do has that noisy background.

How can I possibly say to her that this isn't helping her DD without sounding awful and judgy and critical. I just don't see how I can but I do think it would make a massive different to her DD's progress and as she's a good mate I should be able to tell her! Anyone been in a similar position?

Perhaps say that. A "friend" at work had similar problems with her ds, and she found that creating a quiet environment made a massive difference, or that there therapist recommended it?

I like it! Why didn't I think of that, that sounds genuine and simple. Thanks.

I would have thought so but surely she would have done something about it if so. Or maybe she thinks it is important, who knows.
