PGCE interview

Calling all PGCE students/applicants...

I have my interview in 10 days. I've bought maths and English study guides to leaf through, but can anyone tell me up to what age I'll be tested in for these subjects. I'm applying for Primary PGCE, will the Maths and English tests include GCSE material?

Thanks

the English one I had was to read through and argue for/against quite a dense report, and the maths was basic but tricky-ish
check the uni's website, there were examples on the one i applied to
it varies, I think
also google pgce interview, I didn't do enough prep for this because I was so worried about the tests
good luck!

How did it go?

Just seen this, I applied last week for The Secondary PGCE at Brighton.

I had a secondary English interview at Exeter on Friday. I think it went OK, but everyone there was good and fewer than half of us will get places. Now its nailbiting time - I am checking track several times a day.

Eeek ooh goodness Lady you must be on edge at the moment!

I'm just waiting to know if I have an interview and I'm terrified, God knows how I would feel if I actually got one and then had to wait!

What did you actually have to do at your interview? They vary massively from Uni to Uni from what I have heard. Have you applied anywhere else?

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 22/11/2010 22:47

The format was an individual interview each followed by a five-minute presentation to a group of fellow interviewees and then a whole group discussion. Whole thing took about three hours. I don't know whether that is typical or not.

Jaquelinehyde · 22/11/2010 22:55

Yes that seems to be quite typical, although some poor people have had to have group interviews Shock

Can you imagine no oppertunity to get yourself accross.

I'm hoping they don't do these at Brighton, knowing my luck I will end up being interviewed alongside the most academically excellent student out there with several years of TA work under their belt, answers for everything over flowing with enthusiasm Grin Grin

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 22/11/2010 22:59

That would be awful! My worst moment was when I arrived and looked around the room to find I was the oldest person there by 20 years. I felt like everybody else's mum!

dylsmum1998 · 26/11/2010 22:32

I am on pgce primary now, good luck.
My interview test the maths was basic but tricky (asked me angles of triangles etc). the english was writing an essay about a recent learning experience I had had.
Then I had a group interview. which was very daunting, we had to make a presentation on teaching (I forget exactly what) as a group, and then normal interview questions as a group.

good luck

I have a Early Years interview coming up at Brighton. Does anyone know which policies I should be looking at. Since the Labour government has gone. Do their policies still stand ?
Thanks in advance !

Jaquelinehyde · 11/12/2010 10:31

Ooh Sam when is your interview, I have a secondary English interview at Brighton on Jan 20th.

Some Labour policies still stand, some don't. The best idea would be to get a broad view of both so you have a real under pinning of all policies.

I am currently finishing my degree and my tutor used to run the primary pgce at Brighton so I may have some pointers for you.
