my ds has never been a good eater, he completely bypassed the puree stage, did a tiny bit of babyled (on his own) getting the odd spaghetti in his mouth! he's almost 2 now and still doesn't eat very much.

he has a bottle of cows milk in the morning and one in the evening and that's it.

he never eats a full meal or even any of it which is the norm. breakfast this morning was 2 bites of a crumpet. only veg he will eat is cucumber and peas and meat is very rare! its mostly pasta and home made chips or pototoes or rice if he does eat basically mostly carbs!

should i be worried? he's been super tired lately? could he be aneimic (sp) should i have him checked out?

I tried giving him minadex tonic recently, other than his poo turning black it didn't help his appetite!

any help, advise, experience would be much appreciated.

thanks

thanks quietly, he's been like that since he started solids at 6 months, i was even referred for health visitor support as they thought it was my anxiety stopping him from eating!!? it wasn't, anyway, i stopped asking for help from health professionals long long time ago... so this question is really about his long term health as he's not getting the nutrition he should! but i do as you do, i don't pressure him to eat, i just offer him food all the time and if i get lucky he'll eat it...

i've tried all sorts, reducing milk, not giving snacks and both dont help his appetite during mealtimes!

i'll definately have a look at that book...

thanks again for your support!

My 2 and a half year old DD is like that...won'teat much apart from pasta, rice and noodles...she will eat porrige and some cucumber and apple...what I found helps is to serve her in one of those muffin tins!

ll the little compartments...say 6...I put somehing in each...a bit of grated cheese, some cucumber in another, apple or strawberries...in one I do a tiny pile of those organic puffs and in another some pasta shapes....she will eat loads more then.

I think it''s a visual thing...it looks really appealing. There is a whole group dedicatd to Muffin TIn meals on Flickr....which is a bit odd but provides ideas!

ForMash what a great idea thanks I'll give that a try!

I'm sure it's normal, but his skinny frame and sticky out tummy makes me sad, reminds me of those pictures of children affected by famine :(

I had (and to some extent still do have) a child like that. I got so ridiculously anxious that I would boil chicken breasts, puree them and stir them into fromage frais. I spoke to her doctor about it and he said she is healthy so stop worrying. She has remained a thin child but is seldom ill.
I don't know what percentile she lives on, we live outside the UK so she's never had one.
