Do you put slippers on your baby?

I've always been of the "nothing on their tiny soft precious little feet" persuasion, but now DD has just started cruising and our floors are freezing - all the rest of us have been in our slippers for weeks.

So, slippers for babies? Should I look at some leather pram shoe kind of slippers? I want something warm, with grip and not going to damage her teensy toes.

Thanks!

It depends will she keep them on?

PinkyBurgerhead · 02/11/2010 09:59

it's a good point.

Shall I try to find slipper socks with grippy bits or something? Does everyone else just have babies with cold feet? It seems a bit mean that I let her scramble around in a sleepsuit while I have the cosiest slipper boots in the world...

My dd won't even keep socks on we have to put tights on her so I know she would not keep slippers on. What about some thick wolly winter tights?

the leather pram shoe kind of ones tend to be easy for them to keep on? both of mine kept them on and they seem quite comfy for them
other slippers and shoes from highstreet shops they dont stay on the feet for 5 min, the leather type ones are so much better
otherwise try tights? would definitly put something on her if your feet are cold hers would be too

Padraigs are sold in lots of UK shops. DS adored his. We have wooden floors and draughts and I would not be without mine either :)

DirtyMartini · 02/11/2010 14:01

Not tights if you want grip -- that's why the Padraigs are so good. Leather soles.

mylifewithstrangers · 02/11/2010 14:05

The moccasin types ones are very good, see this selection.

We had these Nowali ones which have an elasticated strap on to prevent them pulling them off. Some stores in the UK sell them or you can get online.

There was a thread recently about tights that have gripper bits on the bottoms - I think GAP was one of the places you can get them.

DirtyMartini · 02/11/2010 14:36

I just don't think (after careful study Wink) that socks and tights with gripper bits ever really have enough grip to be safe on slippery floors. The potential velocity of a slipping toddler is enough to overwhelm the gripping capacity of a few rubberized words (eg "baby Gap") per sole surface.

Links appreciated, thanks! Particularly like the slippersocks and the padraig ones.

I bought some leather ones this morning on eBay here - bargain!

so will see how we get on with these. Will be back to report and possibly invest in the others suggested.

I'd be upset if I had no choice but to potter around in tights, by the way! Our house is freezing! I'm almost being swayed by the slanket thread Shock

I reckon I could make my Mum knit those padraigs, by the way! Off to google suede fabric to attatch to the bottom!

I have socks with gripper bits for my 14mo, but he just pulls them off if he's not wearing shoes over them. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the cold floors though, perhaps it is inherited as I'm always barefoot?

DirtyMartini · 02/11/2010 19:33

Ah but they are lined with sheepskin, you see. That is what makes them life-changingly comfy.

Grumpla · 02/11/2010 19:45

Ooh, DS had some of those Padraig ones (or really similar anyway) they were bought for him as a present and were the only warm thing I could keep on his feet. Had to tie them pretty tight though. They were lovely and warm because of the sheepskin.

You might be able to find something similar on Etsy?

mistressploppy · 02/11/2010 19:57

Damn you Pinky, I've just bought two pairs of those cute little leather shoes!

I got a pair from Startrite for DD, in a size 3, which are soft but have a gripping sole which is still flexible. The style is called sweet dreams

PinkyBurgerhead · 05/11/2010 08:25

eBay ones arrived - they are gorgeous and beautifully soft, and they stay on!!

Thanks for the replies!
