DH wants to start giving 6 month DS a dummy

I'm not sure what whether to or not.

DS is 6 months and EBF. He has never had a dummy. My nipples are beginning to get sore because he is feeding so much and teething.

At night time he used to sleep through but at 4 months started waking for a feed at night and it has been getting more frequent as time goes on.

We think that it is comfort suckling not feeding because he feeds himself to sleep and wakes up when I unlatch him, however when I today replaced it with my finger he didn't wake up, and when I removed my finger he did.

Should we give him a dummy at night time to save my nipples and give me some more sleep? Or would it affect my BF and cause even bigger problems later on when it's time to stop using it?

Thanks!

Personally I think at 6 months the moment has passed for a dummy. He's going on to solids soon (if not already, presumably) which may help with less frequent night feeds in due course but you might have to ride this bit out a little longer.

Feeding to sleep is normal, you can tell if he's comfort-suckling as his mouth movements become more tickly and gentle and sleepy, when that happens I would unlatch him gently with a finger, quickly put your boob away, and cuddle him instead until he drops off.

Sorry if you've tried all this already! But I would say don't worry about a dummy now.
