Is this really it?

Am feeling quite fed up with the school run at the moment, seem to spend my life at the school gates and as dd2 has just started school this isnt going to end anytime soon.
See mums smiling away at 2.45 lingering and laughing at the gates like theres nothing they would rather be doing than hanging round WAITING.
I cant stand it myself, life revolves round 9 oclock and 3.15.
Then when we get in we trash the place and it takes an age to tidy up...night after night.
Is this it? Really?

I know exactly how you feel charliecat - think it MUST get better - although, have a feeling that we just become more like taxi drivers, ferrying to school, swimming, ballet, gym, cubs, brownies...

If you think like that then the answer is yes. However, apparently life is what you make it. So make the most of your time and energy. Learn to savour life. You can do it, it's not all drudgery and waiting around for the kids! (I hope!)

Oh Gawd - don't say that! I can't wait till ds and dd are at school - all those blissful hours to get on with stuff. Tell me it's blissful - PLEASE!!!!

KBear · 15/09/2005 20:35

So do you have any other children of pre-school age stopping you doing something YOU want to do in the day before the school pick-up. If not, choose a class, go for a swim, meet friends. If you do, choose the above but where there's a creche for an hour and got to toddler groups etc and make a big effort to walk somewhere every day. Being stuck in the house makes me crazy, I walk every day, good for your mind!

charliecat · 15/09/2005 20:37

Oh. No money either. I work some days, that just makes me feel more rushed and tired. Really not enjoying life at the moment.

Zippy had a nice afternoon bath on Moday...that was lovely, listened to a cd without being asked to switch that noise off......Hmmm
School are asking for helpers. Think that might be a good idea?

What about a job in the mornings to help with finances?

jac34 · 15/09/2005 20:41

Slink,
I made a "To do",list as well, but somehow never got round to doing any of it.I got side tracked by finding interests of my own, and now only just about fit the housework in, never mind the rest!!

saadia · 15/09/2005 21:38

Just try to enjoy it - I always think that I will look back at my dss' childhood as the best years of my life. However mundane it might get you have to admit that there is something magical about childhood. I'm going to get all soppy now, but when I'm looking at them I sometimes feel like it is the closest thing to heaven on earth.

suedonim · 16/09/2005 00:26

Hey, Charliecat, spare a thought for me! I've got big gaps between my children and have been hanging around school gates since 1980, a quarter of a century, I kid you not!!!! I did once count how many school sports I'll have been to before dd2 leaves school but it was so many my brain has blanked it out.

mymama · 16/09/2005 00:59

I know how you feel sometimes charliecat. My pick up is right in the middle of Oprah (how dare they????). Most of the time I thrive on it though. I am a SAHM so it could be worse - I could have to work . Whenever I get stressed or down about it I think of my best friend who has a child needing a heart transplant - due to the risk of infection he may never go to school. It puts things back in perspective for me.

Carla · 16/09/2005 09:01

saadia, that was fab! Couldn't have put it better.

So why, like charliecat, do I feel a bit the same. And ridden with guilt that I've got two beautiful dds, but seem not to be enjoying it as much as I should? It just doesn't add up.

Slink · 16/09/2005 09:15

jac 34 no what you mean, i keep looking at the list and so far done nothing, apart from meet frinds for coffee and lunch, gone swimming, and power walked. Ok will start Monday.he he

charliecat · 16/09/2005 14:01

My dd starts school in Jan, 5 x mornings and as I currently work 3 full days I shall have 2 monrings off.....and I plan to go swimming, go to driving range (probably not enough time to play a round), learn how to use my digital camera properly and take some snaps around where I live, and generally have some time-out to myself. Roll on 2006!

I met a friend this morning who has a 6 year old at school and she dreads the school gates, says it is not the friendliest of places and a bit intimidating. She lives in a nice part of town yet finds it not so easy to meet fellow parents.

Slink · 18/09/2005 09:15

can relate to that webchick and dd is only 4.... i am lucky if one parent smiles????
