I personally have never left my child locked in car whilst paying for petrol as I go to ASDA which is only pay at pump. But I am curious as to what people feel is an acceptable age to leave them in the car - locked of course whilst you pay for petrol at the kiosk.

There is far more chance of them/us being run over by the eejits racing off the forecourt to beat the bloke next to them than them being abducted by aliens. I always lock the car, I lock the thing when I'm standing next to it filling it up, never mind on the other side of the forecourt. I do the worried glancing back at the car thing though and get arsey if the people in front take too long, like doing their shopping ffs. Who thought it was a good idea to put anything other than milk and chocolate in a petrol station. I don't want to be in the queue behind some bloke with a trolley full of ready meals thanks, even when DD isn't in the car.

From birth.

Not that it ever occurred to me to risk waking two sleeping small children but had I, the odds are that the petrol station doors wouldn't be big enough for me to get my double buggy through. So then the question is, safer belted in, in a locked car or strapped in and ready to roll outside on the forecourt.

It's a no brainer!

have always left daughter in car its fine for a few minutes nothing is going to happen most cars can double lock so they cant open doors from inside. if they misbehave in 3 minutes well usual consequences for being naughty but I think its very safe to leave them in locked car.

seems the most scary thing is what others think about us leaving them rather than whether it is safe, I also leave her when posting a letter or picking up newspaper but then I live in quiet village where everybody knows everybody, would probably be more cautios in the rougher parts of glasgow

in fact easier with baby as often they are asleep, older children probably need protecting from themselves rather than others ie handbrake story!

I'm way too scared to leave them in the car.

I either wait to have them babysat so I can fill up on my own or do pay at the pump. If I just have DS with me I faff about and unstrap him once I've filled up then take him into the petrol station to pay.

I always leave mine in the car (3.6yo and 10mo), but I also stare at them the entire time as if the car is about to blow up.

Ridiculoous, really.
