Want to do something special for single mum-to-be friend

One of my best friends is pregnant, unexpectedly, and is going it alone as the guy (a casual fling) has no interest at all (long story - bit of a sad one).

So, she is 34 yrs old, 14 weeks pregnant and on her own. She has a good job, but no savings or property of her own and will be quite skint when her baby is born.

She has already asked if I would mind bequeathing my old baby stuff to her - cot, moses basket, steriliser, baby alarm - which I will happily do.

But we have been friends forever (well, since we were 11), I love e her to bits, and I want to do something really special for her and the baby.

I was thinking of collecting together a chest / hamper of bits and pieces she might want/need over the next few months to give to her when the baby is born (to spread the cost for me, really). Does this sound like a naff idea? What sort of thing should I put in it?

Any ideas (or alternative suggestions) gratefully received.

The hamper sounds great! My friend did a similar thing for her sister, everytime she went shopping she bought a pack of nappies or some baby wipes / baby toiletries etc. There things every baby will need and things that cost alot without realising so i think that would be really handy to have

You could do a mum to be hamper and give it to her in the last trimester or when she goes on mat leave, inc things like:
raspberry leaf tea
body lotions / potions
new slippers / bed socks
couple of books
nail polish
etc etc

You could also maybe get a gift card for somewhere she does her clothes shopping put on a couple £ a week (if you can afford to) then when baby has arrived she'll have a nice gift card to buy herself a few bits of clothes :)

It's a fab idea - my SIL did something similar for me, including a letter of pearls of wisdom that you only find out when you have the baby. I do it now for colleagues, friends and family who are expecting for the first time and I usually put in:
Muslins
Hand cream
Baby wipes
Biscuits
Pregnancy friendly bath stuff
A book (child care/ comedy)

Best of luck to your friend.

hamper sounds good but also after baby you seem to forget to sort out basics for self maybe gift voucher to get hair done week or so before baby comes, so she looks like a stunning mummy
