When do you love your children most?

OK - soppy thread alert.....

Just finished putting DS1 (5.5) to bed about half an hour ago and came downstairs realising that I felt 'full of love' for him... Why?

Because we were reading together and he was asking such serious and intelligent questions about things, and was snuggled up next to me on his bed. Just made me feel 'this is what being a parent is all about really'

Sometimes amongst all the noise/ fighting/ mess and stress it's easy to lose sight of these sort of moments, so I found myself thinking 'when else do I feel like this?'

Other moments are:

  • when they're ill or hurt and just crumple in your arms needing comfort
  • when they are trying something new/ different/ scarey and look across at you for encouragement
  • when they say really grown up sensible things back at you ("don't cry Mummy - it will all seem much better in the morning!")

What are yours?

[I DID warn you it would be soppy.......]

Dd is only 7 months but I find I'm most full of love for her when she's happily playing and doesn't notice me watching. Her little face is a picture when she's so happy.
Awhhhh, i'm going to go and stare at her in bed now!!!!

SleepySuzy · 13/09/2005 20:59

When i say "love you" to 20 month old dd, and without batting an eyelid she says straight back "uv ooo!"

QueenOfQuotes · 13/09/2005 20:59

DS1 (5 on Saturday) turned round and said "don't cry mummy" earlier when I managed to smash my small pyrex casserole dish on the floor (full of water and uncooked carrots). Of course I nearly did cry after he said that.

When they hug me, especially dd as she's still so little and nuzzles into my neck with her legs around me.
When my ds does his secret smile, when he's very happy/pleased
When ds is being a sweetie and offering to make me toast, give me a cuddle, kiss me to make me feel better
When he's just got out of the bath and is posing in the mirror sticking his just washed hair up and saying, in a silly voice 'look, I'm posh' (dunno where he got that from, some advert I think)
When they're asleep, obv!

Ooooh - yes ! OF COURSE... when they are asleep.... actually I think I was the first to confess on MN to gratuitous 'baby-sniffing'

Together in the bath tonight DD (nearly 3) was asking me to make 'animals puppets' with my hands and was just collapsing with laughter when I did - I was overwhelmed with how much I love her.

Monstersmum · 13/09/2005 21:20

When he's asleep!

When his face lights up as I pick him up from school.

When he cuddles up on the sofa.

When he sneaks in to bed between DH and me and has to be touching both of us, wriggles around to get comfy and sighs with pleasure.

magnolia1 · 13/09/2005 21:20

When she has come downstairs for the 20th time!! NOT

Seriously I have 4 and I love the eldest one so much when she gets up and does me breakfast in bed

The twins I love to pieces when theysay sorry to each other (which is really often gievn the amount of fighting they do!)

Dd4 is 27 months and she is downstairs playing at the mo coz she likes to be a pain in the bum and I just look at her and I melt

All of them are lovable when they are sleeping coz they look so relaxed and sweet with ruffled hair and legs hanging out of bed

butty · 13/09/2005 21:22

when they are good!!

When they learn new things,

when ds says she loves me every morning (then turns into the jackel!!

Having them in my life(not easy)

They changed me from the way i used to be of which i shant relay on here, but they were my real strengh and turning point.xx

magnolia1 · 13/09/2005 21:22

Ohhh Monstermum that reminded me of the other night when 1 twin got into our bed and 5 minutes later the other one came in. They both layed in the middle giggling with each other like it was their bed and me and dh were the intruders

Luckie · 13/09/2005 21:28

When Ds has just finished a bf, he unlatches and lays there smiling at me.

LadyTophamHatt · 13/09/2005 21:28

when they don't answer me back!

trinityrocks · 13/09/2005 22:01

DD1- when I tell her daddy is coming home today (he's a submariner and at the mo is away until November

  • when she tells me my hugs are the warmest
  • when she cuddles her baby sister and says how cute she is oh and when she's asleep

DD2- when she finishes a nightime bf and is already asleep and when I unlatch her she sleepily pops in her thumb and looks adorable

  • when she giggles like mad from lots of kisses on her belly
crazydazy · 13/09/2005 22:06

When I give DS a kiss in the morning and he says "Tanks Mum" and when he tells me I look like a beautiful model on TV and DP laughs his socks off!!!

lucykate · 13/09/2005 22:13

dd - when i pick her up from nursery, they call her name and she runs across the room for a big hug.

ds - he just smiles all the time, makes me laugh when we go out in the car, he stares at me from his car seat (its in the front, no passenger airbag), smiling constantly.

God, where do I start, I think my top 2 regular special moments are:

  • when she gets into bed at the weekend with us and strokes my face and kisses me and says 'ssssshhhh mummy sleep'.
  • when i put her in bed and every single night, without fail she's all excited to be in her bed and pull the duvet under her chin and says' story' and then turns to me as I lie down and wraps her arms round my neck

but they are also when

  • she says 'dadu mummy' (Thank you mummy) when I hand her anything
  • it's when she bum shuffles round in a circle with one leg held poised in the air and comes over and hugs and kisses my knees and says 'horray' when I let her watch a DVD
  • It's when she says 'ohhh nooo' and claps hand to mouth at the maddest little thing
  • It's the excitment she seems to have at absolutley nothing
  • it's the way she gets Daddy's hand and mine in the other and says 'kiss' and gets all stupidly happy each and every time we kiss.

I won't go on. It's just small every day moments that just overwhelm me and make me feel like the luckiest person alive.

Norash · 13/09/2005 22:28

-First thing in the morning when he looks up at me and gives me the widest toothless smile I have ever seen.
-When he is sleepy and puts his head on my "bossom" or my shoulder and the sounds he makes just make me melt.
-When he goes, da da da da da da da da . It is so cute
-When I walk into yhe room and he looks up at me and puts out his hands for me to pick him up

sparklymieow · 13/09/2005 22:32

Today, when I was taking DS upto bed (I know, he is 7, he should be going by himself, but I can't help it) he realised I hadn't put his Yu-gi-oh bedcover back on, and I said 'sorry, bad mummy' he said 'no, you're not, you're lovely' and gave me a big hug and kiss.....

Carlk · 13/09/2005 22:33

When we're playing and she giggles so much she get hiccups.
When she is charming to strangers in the street a little wave and cheeky smile seems to make the most stern face crack into a smile.
When I go into her in the morning and she's quietly lying in her cot awake playing with her hair and she sits up and hands me her dummy

expatinscotland · 13/09/2005 22:44

Most. I really can't say, I love her so much it's hard to believe. The time of the day I most look forward to is when I come home from work and she comes running into the hallway w/a smile on her face saying 'Mummy!'and I scoop her up and kiss her plump cheeks. I'm so happy to see her!

Tortington · 13/09/2005 22:45

i feel very honoured when my dd is nice for a change. i love it when we have long conversations in the kitchen and shes a good listener and she asks propting questions. she likes hearing abou how me and her dad met - shes heard the storry a million times. she tells me all the gossip from school.

i lvoe it when they help each other and are nice to each other when they think i'm not looking. which tbh they often are.

i love their lovley good manners and i love being complimented on them

i love ds2 when he says something and completely completely completely amazes me - he always comes out with wonderful long very articulated words which constantly surprise me - hes 12 and not the brightest spark at school so when he says something like " that was a hard bend to negotiate mum wasn't it" it takes my breath away!

i love the way they all adore their dad. i love to see them fighting i love it. i love them all all the time. i love my eldest son who is 15 when he says " mummmeeeee" which makes me laugh - cos he wants something.

i love all their sense of humours
