Great grandparents

I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter. We try and visit my grandparents each weekend but it is getting a bit difficult. Each time we visit they have spent a fortune buying DC different things. Colouring books, games, clothes. It has reached the point that when we are driving there DC asks what they have got her this time? When we are there they constantly offer sweets, cake, chocolate, fizzy pop, generally right before lunch. When i say no, or could she have it after her lunch they say of course she can have some!
When I was younger i loved going to visit my grandparents, not for presents but simply to visit a loved member of my family. I want DC to experience this too, but now the visits relate to presents and what she can get out of it.
I want to broach the subject with my grandparents but they can be quite touchy about things like this and i have no idea what to say. My Grandma especially is very touchy and twists any comment into a criticism. I dont want to cause any trouble but i don't want it to carry on. Any suggestions.

Thanks

Personally, I'd let them spoil their Great Grandchildren...? Is it doing your children any great harm, or are they going to remember their Great Grandparents fondly in years to come?

I wouldn't worry too much. Certainly not worth upsetting your g-parents. Better to chat to your DC before and after about how lucky they are to have GG-parents, let alone ones who treat them so well. Plus (I'm sure you do anyway) make them say their thanks.
