I am sure this has been done a thousand times but I have tried so many cups to wean dd from bottle onto and she just bites them and gets annoyed. She is 10 months and should be taking at least one milk feed from a cup I think?

I didnt even try weaning from bottle to cup with milk feeds until dd was 1 year old - at least that way she managed to mostly take the amount of milk she was supposed to. She could drink water from a cup easily - we used the tommee tippee first cup which is freeflow (not non-spill so easy to get fluids out) with a fold down spout. Once she was over 1 and milk was less important I swapped the morning bottle for a cup with milk along with her breakfast. After a week or so I swapped the night bottle for a cup as well. Her intake did fall for a little while but picked back up again. She still has a small drink of milk with breakfast (or sometimes fresh orange juice) and a small avent magic cup of milk in the evening and shes now 22 months. She was off bottles by about 14 months and can manage most cups/beakers whether they are freeflowing, non-spill or open top.

That Tommee Tippee cup you are talking about has been the best, and cheapest that we have had! And there have been many. Don't waste your money!!!

I just switched the Avent teat on the bottle for a spout (you can remove the valve to create a free flow one) but both mine were older than 10 months before I even tried with milk - think it is recommended from a year but not sure in reality many do it that young.

shalaa · 12/09/2005 13:42

I've got a doidy cup and that seems good

butty · 12/09/2005 13:51

i never used a cup with mine, they did'nt seem to like them, so i invested in a cup with the inbuilt straw and have never looked back.
They are really good for none spillage and last for ages.

butty · 12/09/2005 13:55

oh forget to mention that the straw is at the side and closes in with the lid, just incase you thought i was a nutter coz it maybe a straw that is upright..
It is'nt dangerous, so at no harm of pushing teeth in when running around!!!!

another vote for the Tommy Tippee basic (and cheap)one. Neither of my DSs have been able to suck through a valve type cup

fannylover · 12/09/2005 14:36

we also have the cheap tommee tippee one

ds just bites anything with a valve and gets cross because it won't come out

he will drink happiloy from the tommee tippee one though, and they're only about £1.60 in tesco

he's 7 months btw

BibiTwo · 13/09/2005 14:10

We have a tesco's own trainer cup with a cross between a teat and spout which is rubbery, so it's not free flowing enough to soak them in seconds flat, but not too difficult to suck from.

RachD · 13/09/2005 14:33

Tommee tippee - def the best.
Later moved on to a free flow from tesco - green tall thing.

tom tip is def best to start with

Fimbo · 13/09/2005 14:35

My ds started out with the one BibiTwo has from Tesco. Best cup ever, told my hv and she now recommends it to all new mums!!

Pagan · 13/09/2005 16:51

DD was drinking out of Boots own make from 6 months but DS is not interested at all and he's 8 mnths

Distel · 13/09/2005 17:29

My ds was 10 moths when I stopped feeding him as he wouldn't stop biting me. We found the only cup he would drink from was a Heinz soft spout cup.

Kelly1978 · 13/09/2005 17:30

another vote for tommee tippee

Bozza · 13/09/2005 17:34

With mine I gave them the Avent Magic Cup with the valve removed and once they got the hang of this cruelly reinstated the valve. Started at about 8/9 months with one milk feed a day from the cup and had them off the bottle by 1. DD is now 15 months and has 7oz (ish) morning and night which she can literally drain in seconds if she wants to.

Bozza · 13/09/2005 17:35

DD was at one point on one breast feed, on cup feed and one bottle feed.

jambot · 14/09/2005 18:25

DD is six months and she had taken really well to the Avent Magic Cup. I'm not using the actual cup as I find it too big for her, so I've just put the spout and handles onto one of her small Avent bottles. I was worried that she would battle to drink from it because of the valve(I tried and battled to get anything out) but she doesn't seem to have a problem. She's only having a bit of juice in it, not milk yet.
