Hair washing nightmare!

Having real trauma with dd (21 months) and hair washing. Tried washing it in the shower a few times to get it over with quickly but then she got a shower complex and wouldn't come in the bathroom. Also do it in the bath which causes a big commotion far too close to bedtime. Tried washing it in the morning in the bath still the same. She has got lots of hair so I can't just leave it. Any ideas or suggestions would be gladly received. It is becoming a real issue!!

We use a folded flannel that he holds over his eyes, also try swimming goggles they worked great for us.
good luck

get him to choose some big stickers or a poster and put it on the bathroom ceiling. Then he can look up at them when his hair is being washed and the water will not get in his eyes.
DS is 9 and has his hair washed once a week (sheer laziness!!) and he has beautiful hair, kids hair does not need washing as much as ours

Never found a solution to this one, you've just go to get on with it at the end of the day, screaming or no screaming! In showers after swimming lessons was always easier than at home, for some reason i never understood, and that was once a week so that worked out well. seems a bit extreme to have whole swimming lesson just for purpose of 2 minute hair wash afterwards but it got the job done!

Just batten down the hatches and do it - it does get better, honest. We've been through it with DD, now 6, and just going through it again with DS, 2.5.

Same here, mine all moan even the 10 year old and the 2 year old just gets it done as quick as possible but have to admit like Caligula, its normally me having the tantrums

Would it help if you just rinsed it to get the dust and dirt out and didn't use shampoo? The natural oils will keep it clean and shiny looking if you just wash with water, and from my memories of hideous hair washing, the shampoo bit is the worst. I would second keeping it short for both your sakes if this phase is going to last. My ds has very little hair and you can basically wash it just by passing a wet sponge over it a few times.

Hi - not much to offer with the rinsing problem but thought I would share this tip for those of you whose kids have long hair. I started putting my dds hair in a loose plait at bedtime when it was hot - kept her cooler and it stops it getting tangled in the night. Also speeds things up in the morning before school as just needs a quick comb through! Checked it out with my hairdresser and he said that its actually better for your hair to do this rather than all the detangling but make sure its not too wet (just slightly damp is best) otherwise the hair can start to rot! DD loves the 'crinkles' in her hair next day too!
