Does your newborn have day clothes & pjs?

We are still in the 'not sure whether it's night or day phase' & we don't do a bath every night so dd tends to just sleep in the same babygro she has worn in the day.

What does everyone else do?

He wore babygros all day but we changed into a fresh one after a bath and before bedtime (once we started to "do" a bedtime routine with him at around 8 weeks...).

Guacamole · 14/10/2010 08:24

He wore babygros day and night, but always a clean one before bed and a clean one first thing in the morning.

I change my 4 week old DS into a clean white babygro at night (when I put my 2 yr old to bed). Makes it a bit of a distinction for me, even if he hasn't got a clue! We haven't got into a proper nighttime routine yet but perhaps this could be the start! Tried to put him in his basket after putting DS1 to bed last night but he wasn't having it. Spent the evening cuddling on the sofa again. Oh well, still early days I guess!

Finding it hard to fit in bathtime between feeds and looking after my other DS so don't bother every day either!

Do you put your DD to bed at a certain time yet? How old is she? Just wondering when I should start attempting a proper bedtime routine? Confused

Mine all wore babygrows 24/7 (obviously not the same one - would change in morning, and before bed, and many times in between). Particularly ds2 who was a puker.

onadietcokebreak · 14/10/2010 08:26

Baby gros all day but again changed before bed and in morning. Its starts to give them the early signals of routine.

Nice babygros in day and plain ones at night (depending on how up to date the washing was!)

Bumperlicious · 14/10/2010 08:41

No routine here yet. No pattern of feeds/sleep so impossible.

Oh dear, my poor dd is wearing the same baby gro all day! Maybe I need some sort of bed time routine. Don't want to do baths every night though.

I wouldnt worry too much. I didnt do baths either at first.

ItWasADarkAndStormyNight · 14/10/2010 09:06

NICU nurses warned me about washing ds too often so don't worry about bath everyday, topping and tailing every day is enough, bath every few days.
First few weeks just chaged babygrow when needed, at least once a day but if he was in it all day and all night I didn't worry.

I just changed when the needed it - I wasn't going to change a clean-enough babygro when they'd no doubt puke on it within 5 minutes. I think mine were about 3-4 months before we started a bedtime routine!

Funny story - Dh and DD1 (then 2 yo) came into hospital to collect me and DD2. DH with DD1's 'help' changed DD2 into a lovely clean new babygro to bring her home in. Whereupon DD2 hacked up a load of mucus all over said clean babygro and DD1's sleeve! DD1 was not impressed................

xandrarama · 14/10/2010 15:45

DD wore a babygro all the time, and I only changed it when it got pooed on. Didn't start a bedtime routine for ages either. If I was taking her out of the house to visit people, I would change her into a clean pair of sleepers... that was my concession to civility.

Alibobster · 14/10/2010 15:47

Bathed baby every night and put him into clean babygro

DancingOnMyBladder · 14/10/2010 16:03

I think i'm in the minority here then....

My DD is 6 weeks and from day one she wore 'proper' clothes in the day time. She has pyjamas for bedtime which we change at her last feed at about 11pm. I find babygros too much of a faff when changing a nappy etc although she does have a few.

She is DC3 and baths fit in during the day when I can but in the next week or so I'm going to start a bedtime routine that works around the others.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 14/10/2010 16:05

Yes, they both had day clothes and sleepsuits.
The day clothes stayed pristine in the drawer while they wore the sleepsuits day and night :o DS until about 6 or 7 months, DD was younger, maybe 4 months. But if we're at home all day (rare these days) I'd still let her!

PutTheKettleOn · 14/10/2010 16:17

now that she's 4 months i put DD2 in 'proper' clothes if we're seeing someone/having visitors. Otherwise it's babygros all the way! I usually put her in a clean one each morning and night, but she's in the same one today as we were in a rush to get DD1 to preschool. Sick stains and all Blush

KatyS36 · 14/10/2010 17:13

Babygrows 24/7, changed when needed (until about 7 months). Bath every other day. Our bedtime routine was that we would both snuggle up in bed with her adn she would have a massive BF before falling alseep and being transfered into her cot. This worked for us.

DD is now 11 months and I now spend far too much money on nice clothes for her :)

whispers my twins are 2 in december and if we aren't going anywhere then they stay in their babygros all day and then get a clean 1 after bath...my washing is a constant battle for me (and I regularly lose the battle and the war) so not adding to it is a good thing!

EdgarAllInPink · 15/10/2010 13:52

babygrows - and lots of them. if you have enough, you can go three days without doing a whites wash.

of course, if i changed the babys nappiy more often, she'd get through fewer sleepsuits...

surely only first babies get bathed everyday?

Octaviapink · 15/10/2010 14:02

Babygros all the way - got changed when it was dirty and not otherwise (mind you, she threw up a lot so that might be a couple of times a day!). Bath - not at all till she was a month old. Newborns aren't getting dirty so a top and tail/wipe of hands and face is fine. I say why make life harder!
