a - beg to be allowed to write up and finish (MSc), relying on goodwill and the fact they probably know you can do it, but have no real excuse why you haven't done any work for an entire year (or two),

or b - cut your losses and re-apply to a different place for next year - keeping your fingers crossed you can get in, as they need two academic refs? (having then wasted two years of your life. again.)

suspect they might say no even if i go for the first option.

nb - withdrew from course due to international move and some counselling requirements, work is now (over) due and i haven't done it. still. am not in a position to rustle it up and stick it in the post immediately, but desperately want this qualification for the future, and for my sanity.

have fallen foul of the 'mummy's needs come last' trap again.

wwyd? chance a(nother) request or make a dignified withdrawal?

I would beg. What was the arrangement when you withdrew/deferred? Have they been supportive about getting you on track during this time? Is it the thesis you need the extension for?

ok - i've sent a begging e-mail.

i essentially just withdrew completely for 12mos (which is now up) but had been running behind/ already had extensions for everything. it was a masterpiece of bad timing. dh got a 2yr international assignment and then we were told our daughter couldn't go because of her disability (she was 5) and the stress of it all caused the flashbacks/ ptsd stuff to recur. thought i was having a breakdown (probably was lol) so ended up spending a lot of time with the uni counselling service.

i haven't heard from them in the interim, but i wasn't expecting to, tbh. (my tutor is lovely, but think my deterioration from 'copes with everything' to 'hideous breakdown in office' was a bit of a shock...)

essentially i am aware they owe me nothing - it really is my own problem that i haven't finished writing it all up (combination of circs here that are boringly 'woe is me' and not relevant to mit circs panel Grin)

just cross with myself. again. prior to hearing about dh's work, they had offered me the chance to go on to phd. i went from thrilled beyond belief to gutted in a week.

Will also keep fingers crossed.

The Phd thing is really promising - indicates they thought you were a good student! Therefore they don't really lose anything.

I feel your pain re: international moves interrupting studies...it caused me to have a major rethink and try to patch together stuff I can do as the powers that be probably won't let us stay put long enough for me to do what I want at one Uni and transfers are never certain!

Anyway - here's hoping for you!

ho hum. have received an e-mail which says 'your request was discussed at the board. you will receive a formal letter from the university outlining the result. if you have any questions, contact....'

not sounding too promising, is it? and given that i'm overseas and the post is horrendous, no idea when i'm going to get the blooming thing...

Grin i have a 12 month extension Grin i e-mailed back to double check they had the correct postal address (tis an odd one) and explain that it can take up to 8 weeks for mail to arrive - and the lovely admin lady e-mailed me the letter as an attachment. Grin you have no idea how relieved i am - i did just manage to stop myself bursting into tears, but it was a close call. Grin phew.
