Say there first proper word?

Put 2 words together

Start forming full sentences.

Do all/any of the above clearly enough for everyone else to understand them?

For me -

Proper word - DS1 - 15 months, DS2 - 13 months,

2 word together - DS1 - 24 months, DS2 - just starting to now (21 months) (that's not including phrases he's learned as 'one word' (ie "Get off" or "Sit down").

Full sentences - DS1 25 months, DS2 - not there yet

Clearly for everyone else to understand - DS1 - 25 months, DS2 - single words about 15 months, 2 words together - 21 months, sentences.......still waiting

first proper word - about 8 months

2+2 = about 9-10 months

started sentences = about 12 months

Completely conversant at 18 months

weesaidie · 11/09/2005 13:53

Well as I have said on a previous thread my dd seems to be a late talker!

She said her first word at about 16 months - hi and now she seems to be getting the hang of mum and dad at 17 months.... so far, that is it.

magnolia1 · 11/09/2005 13:54

Exactly the same as jampots for my 1st child.

For my twins it was 1st word at 10 months, 2 words together at 13 months and full sentence at about 18 months.

For my youngest who is now 27m: 1st word at 9 months, 2 words together at 12 months and full sentence at 18 months.

aww she'll get there - DS1 was very late and suddenly 'came alive' at 25 months (can't shut him up now LOL).

Gosh - I can't believe all these kids talking so early! I must have "slow" friends as they were all pretty similar to ds2

To me though a proper sentence from a child id 'me have some?' or 'katie sit there?' So nothing technical

marthamoo · 11/09/2005 13:58

I can't even remember - I must be a really bad Mum.

snafsicle · 11/09/2005 13:58

Ds is pretty much the same as your ds2, QoQ. He's 26 months now and it's still really only me that understands him

Maybe I should be more worried about that but frankly I can't be bothered to be...

weesaidie · 11/09/2005 13:59

QoQ - I think u are right. She seems to do everything else that is expected after all!

I only know one other mum with a toddler and he isn't talking yet so I am sure I am not abnormal... maybe I should have got those baby einstein videos!

spidermama · 11/09/2005 14:00

I can't remember either. It's all a blur.

magnolia1 · 11/09/2005 14:01

nah weesadie, no need for them!! I have a few friends who have kids the same age as katie and one of them still hasn't said anything other than mum or dad. They all develope differently and don't wish it to come quicker coz once they start you can't shut them up!!

marthamoo · 11/09/2005 14:02

I can remember their first words though! Ds1's was "woof!" (when he saw a dog) and ds2's was "star". That tells me when ds2's 1st word was really - it would have been around Christmas time so he was about a year old.

magnolia1 · 11/09/2005 14:03

All my lot said dad 1st

marthamoo · 11/09/2005 14:05

Ds2 said Daddy, Ganma, Gandad, and his brother's name before he even attempted to say Mummy...

Don't they say 'dada' first just because it's an easier sound to make?

magnolia1 · 11/09/2005 14:06

I told myself it was coz I was always with them so they had no need to ask for me

weesaidie · 11/09/2005 14:06

Yeah my dd said dad first too. I remember being round at a friends and trying get her to say mummy...

'say mummy, mummy...'

dramatic pause...'dad.'

Thanks darling.

weesaidie · 11/09/2005 14:09

I think dada is easier. In fact a GP was saying to me that the reason we are called mummy and daddy is because they are the sounds they usually make first?? And he thought that daddy was chosen for the man as that was first and of course the man was the more important figure....

Tortington · 11/09/2005 14:18

i have no idea

magnolia1 · 11/09/2005 14:19

was being the opretive word

happymerryberries · 11/09/2005 14:27

for dd, first proper word 11 months

can't remember two together....but fairly rapidly I think.

By 18 months she was using 7-8 word, gramatically correct sentences that other people could understand, for example, 'Mummy, can I have an icecream please?'

can't honestly remember so mch of ds, first word at 13 months and slower to do the rest

steffee · 11/09/2005 14:43

DS1 first single words at about 10-11m, but then slow with progressing and at 2 was only just starting to put two or three words together for a sentence. However, now at 4.10 he is very vocal and knows so much I can't believe, including names of cars and dinosaurs that I don't know!

DD first single word at about 10m too, but two words together at about 12-13m and sentences at 18-20m(?) and never stops chatting through waking hours.

DS2 worryingly only just starting with single words at 21m. I'd say he's been saying the odd single word since he was 19m, but no two words together, though he does understand. He can only say "mam" "dad" "sheep" "red" and he learnt "no" about a week ago but he can't get a word in with the older too.

Crawling - ds1 crawling by 6m, dd not til 9m, ds2 6m.
Walking - ds1 11m, dd not til 14m and ds2 about 13m
Colours - ds1 about 2, dd knows a few at almost 3 and ds2 knows red at 21m
