What household objects can DS play with in the bath?

I have a tough time getting DS (3.2) into the bath. If I can entice him in with a new toy it's a lot easier although obviously I can't go buying new toys all the time! So I've been searching through cupboards and recently we have played with:

his teaset
adult teapot (metal)
plastic bottles/cups/jugs
plastic bag inc punching holes in it
various boring things to see if they float/sink eg: stones, wood.

Is there anything else I probably have lying around that might be fun for him?

Neurofen syringes - they love shooting water out of them.

Fruit?
Non sharp kitchen implements like spatulas (imagine how much splashing he could do with that?) or the whisk part of electric whisks?

Empty make up or food jars for filling and emptying?

Bouncy balls?

DS has mixing bowls, sieve, whisk, jug.

No room left for him once he has all that in. He is 7 though. A bit older than yours!

Sieve, colondar, spoons, any of his own toys that are waterproof. Have you tried asking him to wash his toys whilst you wash him? It's a great way of getting their toys clean.

Also can you get bath chalks so he can draw on the bath or tints that change the water colour?

LowLevelHaunting · 13/10/2010 12:23

water pistols
goggles
things with holes like a plasitc collander
beach ball?

tbh, you've got quite a lot of stuff already!

TheLemur · 13/10/2010 12:31

Some brilliant ideas thank you! Liking the syringe and kitchen things/whisk ones a lot. Also waterproof toys like duplo will go down well

FernieB I've always been a bit nervous of staining my (plastic) bath/tiles but if anyone knows of any reliable products I would be interested to hear about them. Could you use food colouring or would that stain?

used to use food colouring, just a small amount. never stained.

Plastic funnels are fantastic, if you have a bubbly bath, you can plop the funnel onto the bubbles and get a mini volcano squirt out of the top.

Also, we always used to do blowing bubbles in the bath 'cos I hate the sticky marks you get on the floor if you blow bubbles indoors.

Giant ice cube? Freeze a plastic box (not an icecream tub sized, that might be a bit much! A small plastic box) full of water - could add food colouring and/or small plastic toys and can play with it as it melts - was popular with my dd.

missslc · 15/10/2010 12:25

I second the coloured ice cubes in the bath- my son loves them.

4plus1 · 15/10/2010 13:10

NOT a toilet roll! Ds tipped one into bath which disintegrated into the water. Dh & I spent an hour using sieves to try and clear it out of the water so it wouldnt block the drain!

wahwahwah · 15/10/2010 13:11

Bottles and bouncy balls. Water pistols. Bath bombs.

Iamcountingto3 · 15/10/2010 13:18

lego/playmobile/duplo - esp figures - and esp with bubble bath!

DaftApeth · 15/10/2010 13:29

How about bath crayons?

DaftApeth · 15/10/2010 13:32

My dcs also love these magic beans and still play with the little foam figures a couple of years on from having the beans.

They also still play with plastic stacking cups (they are 9yrs and 5yrs Blush) and bath/foam letters

DaftApeth · 15/10/2010 13:33

ps. I realise these are not household items but could be xmas presents? Grin

TheLemur · 15/10/2010 20:04

Thank you all Grin

So far this week we've used a whisk to make bubbles and play imaginitively with (he pretended it was Big Ben as it has cogs), plus the nurofen syringe to wet the ceiling Hmm

Food colouring is on the shopping list for some big ice cubes.

I like the look of those sponge bean things! I've heard bad reports of bath chalk discolouring grout tho so may steer clear of those

I've never been quite sure what bath bombs are? Plus re: bouncy balls, how exactly does one play with them in the bath? I gave a ball pool type ball to DS and he stared at it blankly

My ds loves bath crayons, not had any staining yet and he insists on colouring our grout despite my protests!

We had lots of imaginative games over the years with various plastic animals and dinosaurs (the solid, life-like kind they sell at ELC etc) in the bath. They all had different voices and personalities, and it was always exciting when a new one came upstairs to join in the story which continued from night to night.
