Tests for coeliacs have come back negative and ds continues to refuse food and lose weight (am waiting to hear back from Paul Shattock thanks Jimjams). Has anyone else had a failure to thrive who has been alright? He is one and am getting very worried

How reliable is the coeliac test (not sure its 100%). Are you already dairy free- think you are. Is he refusing a certain type of food (for example ds1 will generally only eat dry foods- preferably cruchy- anything wet no chance- except yoghurts- but they have to be pink).

yawningmonster · 11/09/2005 10:10

yes to being dairy free, the last two days he has refused everything! He is very unpredictable with what will work and what wont, we think we have a winner that lasts about a week and then he suddenly refuses again. I do think teeth are a big factor in the latest hunger strike but I really dont want him to lose more weight, its almost more than I can bear.

Does he like soay milk smoothies? We used to give ds1 those (until he refused them). The soya ice cream is delicious as well.

as to reliability of tests I am not sure but they did do an extra one this time to see if he had a gene that would give him a genetic dispositon to developing coeliacs which was also negative, his iron was down which is no real surprise so will restart the sups (oh joy, constipation here we come again)

have tried both soy milk, and soy icecream, he will drink a small amount at times but not fussed on either one a great deal.

have you tried spatone? it doesn;t really constipate. I've given it to ds1 a lot.

do u know if it is avail in nz, will ask gp for it, does it have vit c to help absorption? Thanks Jimjams, have been watching your weeing on the floor thread, having any luck with constant supervision, if it is a case of him enjoying watching it would he be able to fulfil this in another way at all?, or maybe you could put some of the bedroom carpet in the toilet if he has made a connection between the two? anyone who has had a baby who lost weight and been ok would be very reassuring

its an iron rich spring water so you can add it to orange juice. It comes in sachets. Will look for a website link later.
