Easiest way to clean up urine (from carpet)???

Any tips. Ds1 has decided to use his bedroom carpet as a toilet (appears to coincide with start of new term- not sure why- he likes school). Have had 5 puddles in the last 2 days- washing and mopping with soapy stuff means it's sodden the whole time. Is there another way?

Jimjams - you never get a break do you - not sure whether its a or a !

Anyway taking a different tack, rather than change the flooring why don't you try one of these scroll down to the second box - the weeman

I think it might be what DS1 is looking for

Jimjams · 10/09/2005 23:09

PMSL - that would end up down the toilet within seconds

He has been very challenging since starting school- I think its because every minute of the day there is used to teach something, so he comes home and needs stimulation but doesn't know how to get it- so he goes on the rampage and is MR destructive. Hopefully it'll calm down soon.

Does he always do it in the same spot??

Could you get a little tray?

The going back to school is shite isn't it! DS1 who I think is NT (but not always entirely sure) is suffering badly from the change in routine - but at least it is only tears i am mopping up

soapbox · 10/09/2005 23:13

Bugger - litter tray - PMSL at little tray

Jimjams · 10/09/2005 23:13

No tears- he's happy as larry! Nope all over the place (in his room though it seems)

What about poo on the sofa?

Actually have put loose covers in the washing machine with bio powder and nappisan. aaargh.

Jimjams · 10/09/2005 23:28

I am hoping big time he doesn't rediscover smearing. We haven't had any episoides since he was potty trained at 4- if that comes back.... gah!

No bedtime stories for ds, which I hope will be sufficiently motivated. Nearly cried though.

Chandra · 10/09/2005 23:30

Better poo than pee Aloha, if they pee on the sofa you may need to get a new one...

aloha · 10/09/2005 23:31

Thank the lord for cheap Ikea loose covers!
And I meant 'motivating'.
Little horror.

onlyjoking9329 · 10/09/2005 23:51

oh dear, we had this phase we also had the doing a wee in the potty and then empting the contents on carpet, we now have mostly laminate floors , does he do it cos he doesnt want to leave his bedroom? only ask cos DD1 (11 and has autism) used to do this at night time in her toy box (nice!) found she didn't like to come out of her bedroom at night so we got a camping toilet which has been great and its too heavy for her to turn it upside down, dunno if your boy would like one of those it has a great flusher on it

aloha · 10/09/2005 23:52

Nah, he did it on the sofa because he was watching a video and didn't want to miss any of it and then it was too late
Oh well, it did need washing anyway, and boy was this an incentive.

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 09:12

Most of the time OJ I think he does it because he's standing up and likes watching it. Not sure why it has to be his bedroom- although I did of course lose my temper so now there's the added bonus that I may scream and shout if he is lucky, which he always enjoys.

Meant to post this last night and forgot. A phone call from my sil yesterday reminded about her talking about her brother (convo about potty training years ago when DD1 coming out of nappies) and how he like to pee standing up - but not into the toilet after using urinals at school. To stop him peeing on the floor (enjoyed watching it I guess) their mum allowed him to pee into the shower enclosure as a last ditch resort to save their flooring. Apparently it worked a treat. Not that pleasant but he enjoyed it for a while and easier for mum to clean I guess.
Just a mad thought

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 09:22

oh god no he'd be doing it for years, and in everyone's house- its probably easier to redirect to the toilet (he's 6 but has next to no langauge).

Perhaps I need to install a urinal?

hadn?t thought about that - bad idea then. pil might have something to say about it...
bicarb and patience then I guess. Been thinking about the laminate option and not convinced it will work. You need to keep on top of all spills as if they stay wet for a while, it can seep and even warp the boards. I know what damage my washing machine did to ours when it leaked over night - not much but a puddle sitting on there overnight did affect it badly. If it did seep at all, could really be difficult to remove the smell.
Can you decorate the loo with something he really likes to help him think that it is a cool place to be?? maybe some stickers?
Ok - another pants idea (no pun intended). Just feel for you a lot and aware that I am not helping here so will just send a hug and shut up xxxxxx

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 10:09

TBH he has a toilet obsession (flushing things down it) and whenever we go anywhere the toilets have to be checked out - including campervan showrooms (every toilet in every van checked). It's just getting him to wee in them! I think the only way round this unfortunately is 100% supervision even at home (he gets that at other houses), with redirection. It is exhausting though (and means leaping out of bed as soon as he stirs int he morning- I am not a morning person).

Sorry Jimjams, haven't read whole thread. We just had to change to cheap laminate I'm afraid, carpets couldn't take it!

yoyo · 11/09/2005 20:54

What about some of those crash mat things they use in gyms? Waterproof and soft if he hurls himself onto them. They last forever too so would be good in the garden for play.
