When to start using push chair instead of pram??

Hi

I'm a first time mum with an 8 wk old DS. I currently love taking him out for walks pushing him in his pram and thought nothing of it until today when a friend of mine asked me when I was going to get him sitting up...

I asked if she was referring to using a pushchair and she said yes. I didnt think I would until he was actually able to sit up himself. Her pram is one that tilts so she can enable her LO to seem more upright. My pram can only be a traditional pram or a pushchair.

Any thoughts? Can he be put in a push chair sooner than I thought?

I think mine says not till 6 months. dd was in the pram bit a little before then as she was very strong and began to hate lying flat. ds is nearly 5 months and still happily laying flat though.

DD1 was in the carrycot till she was 6mths. DD2 is currently 4mths and still in the carrycot too and will continue to be.

Personally I hate seeing little ones propped up in pushchairs, all screwed up and lolling to one side.
Its much better for them to be flat still especially as he is so young.

Some babies prefer to be sitting up but I think they should be able to support their own weight first.

My pushchair said from 6mths as they need to be able to sit up and not loll forward. At 8wks it wouldn't be safe for him to be so sat up imo. As soon as she turned 6mths i did buy the pushchair style as the pram was so cumbersome i couldn't bear it any longer, plus it was so hard to fit in my little Fiat!

I have a pushchair that can lay flat and face me, so 4mo DD is in that now.

The carry cot bit was actually the car seat, and it just got too heavy to keep lugging that, and the frame and the baby in three journeys up the stairs to our flat, so now I just use the pushchair.

I won't sit her upright until she can do it on her own and gets grumpy laying flat. I'm with Pigley - I get sad seeing them slumped to one side.
