Daytime sleeps for 10 week old?

My 10 week old DD is fairly good at sleeping when we're out and about (and at night), but not so much when we're at home during the day. She then gets overtired and it takes me ages to get her to stop crying and settled.

Should I try putting her to sleep in her crib during the day? Normally I just leave her to sleep wherever we are (in my arms, in her bouncer, in the pram etc). Would this kind of routine help? I don't follow any 'routine' anyway and I don't plan her naps; I just want to help her get to sleep more quickly when she needs it.

I have had/ am having exactly the same prob with 13 week old DD. In the past week or so I am now starting to work out when she is sleepy (as opposed to when I want her to sleep!) and making a real effort to stay in between 9.30 - 12ish as this is when she will eventually go to sleep if I just lay next to her quietly reading. It's a pain in the bum as all the good groups are on in the mornings but it is worth it to have my sweet happy girl when she is awake rather than a wailing banshee by 5pm!

DD has always had her daytime naps in her cot. Her naps are at kind of the same time each day but not because that is when i want her to but because that is generally when she is tired. I watch for her tired cues (seven mile stare, eye rubbing, getting grumpy etc) and whisk her up to her cot and into her grobag. She is usually asleep in no time.

I do think that having that sameness each time has help to encourage her sleep. She can nap in the buggy to or on the playmat but her sleep is never as deep or lasts as long.

Every time I try to put her in the cot for day-time naps, she wails, as if she thinks its proper bedtime and isn't ready for that. What's the trick to help her see the cot as just her sleeping place, not just bed-time?!

I've recently started putting my 10 week old down on my bed for most daytime naps, and trying to limit pram naps to one a day - he sleeps better that way. I watch him carefully for tiredness, then take him into the bedroom, feed him, give him his dummy then sit next to him while he falls asleep.

It was about 10-12 weeks when our dd started wanting to be put down for naps rather than sleep on us. Having a routine that you follow for sleep-time - whether it's day sleep or night-time - helps a lot.
