cotton wool

I have been flushing cotton wool! Then I read the packet and it says quite clearly not to do this. Does anyone else flush cotton wool / know why you're not supposed to. And what do you do with it otherwise, bag it and bin it like it says? only it's a bit tricky juggling all that poo etc with ds kicking and trying to get away. sorry if this is a bit tmi...

no, you shouldn;t flush it, just like you shouldn't flush sanitary products

it can block drains. waste water pipes aren't usually particularly large

it can also cause problems as far down the line as the waste water works (sewage works) as too much big stuff can damage the filters they use

I know i feel terrible.... what do you use - wipes then chuck?

we use reusables so don't have that problem thankfully!

if i am at my mums i sometimes use wipes though, and yes, just fold it all up with the nappy and bin it

Re-usable wipes? not heard of these - we use reusable nappies....

aceandskill - you can cut up muslins/ikea flannels/terry nappies etc to make washable wipes and then just stick them in the bucket with the nappies :)

If there's a particularly lumpy bit just use loo roll and flush it :)

yeah just been looking at cheeky wipes - basically just terry flannels cut up and put in a lunch box and costing £20!

we mainly use flannels from poundland! pack of 8 or something
i do have some from ds1 still that i lovingly sewed fleece onto one side, but tbh a plain flannel is just as good!

We have a mixture of wipes, i have cheeky wipes (from when i first started out and realised they are soooo over priced), we have some little lambs that we got as a gift and we have some peachy wipes that i make and sell myself which are fleece. Fleece is very good at getting poo off and is gentle if your baby gets nappy rash.

Cotton wool doesnt break down like loo paper so it blocks the drains like baby wipes do. As my old next door neighbour found out the hard way :(

I have decided the poundland flannels aren't that good!
DD2 is just 7m and we are BLW, she is enjoying broccoli!
I couldn't work out why the poundland flannels still had wee bits stuck to them, I put them back in for a second wash and it's still there. It took a while to work out that it is little bits of broccoli caught up in the weave of the flannel so they are getting the thumbs down from me. (oh and that is broccoli that has been digested not just from a face wash!)
