need help for my blind mum

Mum lives in London and is now registered blind - this has been a gradual process and she is having to re-adjust to more sight loss very often. I live elsewhere and have two young children so my input on a practical level is limited. She currently lives alone and just about manages, but what she really needs is a regular visit each week from somebody to read post, organise paperwork, go through diary and similar stuff. Friends do help but she would prefer a more formal arrangement so she wouldn't have to depend on goodwill, and also their plans changing week to week. Either a volunteer or a paid person, she doesn't mind. She isn't receiving DLA, mostly because she is financially OK, but has had v negative experience of Islington Social Services personally and via other blind friends - she doesn't feel they could offer any useful help. Have been prodding her to try Age Concern, but they apparently told her volunteeers couldn't read post because of Data Protection - so she was really put off them! Any other ideas?? RNIB have been good for gadget-related stuff, but she has not been impressed on other fronts.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

She could try Disability Action Islington. They might be able to point her in the right direction.
