weaning confusion

If I combine BLW and a bit of spoon fed puree will I confuse my DS or should I just stop worrying about it, feed him with a spoon and let him get on with making a mess of finger food in his high chair? Or should I pick one weaning method? He seems fine- ot hungry cos still BFing loads, but just want to ask others opinion.

don't think it will confuse him at all - am not a BLW expert but I would think that you could use multiple methods - whatever suits you I think.

Don't worry about it. Do both, either, or switch from one to the other. See what works best.

He won't get confused - it's all food. Smile

That's what I do. He eats bits when he feels like it, I feed him bits when he wants me to. He eats purees. He eats chunks. He drinks from a sippy cup sometimes and from a bottle other times.

Guess what? He's a tiny human! He's inconsistent!

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. I've gone down the BLW route, which I like as it means that we've never had an issue with lumpy (ie normal texture) foods and adult tastes (ie chilli, curry).

Remeber the "food is fun until they're one" adage, as you say he has lots of milk so he'll keep thriving even if he doesn't take lots of solids for a few months. That seems to be one of the main reasons why people choose not to do BLW. If you can be relaxed and trust your DS to take what he needs, then you may not have any need for purees at all.

BLW is very very messy though, something else you need to be relaxed about. I confess there have been times when I wish I'd spoonfed as we were going to be eating out and I would've loved to have contained the mess. But, purees can be messy too.

Encourage finger foods from the start, and you should be fine. It's amazing how well babies can deal with "adult" food given the opportunity!
