Eco friendly nappy bin?

We're planning on using Nature babycare nappies for their environmental benefits but I was wondering if it then matters what nappy bin we use to dispose of them in? Any thoughts?

I use a tots bots bucket as it has a tight fitting, lockable lid. Perfect for my curious 3 year old and no doubt DD2 will be the same when shes older lol. No smells either, i love it.

The nappies are eco disposables not washables. Just wondered if there are any eco bins with eco liners. Is it pointless to use an eco disposable nappy then put it in a plastic bin liner?

yes it is pointless. Fraid I don't know of any eco bins though.

why not use a bucket with tight fitting lid. you can reuse the bucket once you don*t use it as bin anymore.

You can get eco nappy bags (nature baby i think - sell them in Boots and Sainsburys round here). Alternatively you could just use a washable wet bag (Monkey Foot for eg) and put the nappies in there when out and about and then put straight into normal rubbish at home. I don't understand why you'd need a special nappy bin for disposables? I might be missing something though cos I've never used them!

Hmm don't mean to put a downer on this but eco disposables are only eco if you compost them. If you put them in your bin they go to landfill and do not break down as the environment there is not conducive to this. Benefits include not being made of revolting chemicals but that's about it....

peachybums · 06/10/2010 22:36

Yes i did know they were disposable but i thought you were going to compost them thats why i suggested the bucket. If you are going to put them into landfil putting them into any plastic bag is pointless tbh. Bins for disposable nappies are mainly the same, id go for composting them if you want to be as eco as possible :)
