7 week old DS refusing to sleep during day

I have a 7 week old DS. At first he would sleep happily in his moses basket for a couple of hours during the day and would wake up once or twice during the night.

However for the past week he has been sleeping through the night - from 10pm till approx 7am. At the same time he now refuses to sleep during the day unless I am holding him. He gets so tired and will pass out in my arms but as soon as I gently place him in his basket his eyes open and he starts screaming. This goes on all day. In fact he is only happy if I am holding him whilst walking around and jiggling him.

It is killing me - my back is in agony (he is a big baby) and I literally can do nothing during the day (by that I mean go to the toilet, have lunch, empty the dishwasher). If I take him out on the pram he will eventually fall asleep but as soon as we walk into the flat he wakes up and starts screaming. I can only write this now as he is screaming in his basket after being put in it when he was sound asleep and waking up immediately.

I have tried a ergonomic baby carrier but he screams in that and gets too hot (he is a hot baby anyway with his 'normal' temperature being around 37.7 degrees)

DH works all day and by the time he comes home at night DS is screaming as he is so tired. He screams between 6pm and 10pm when we finally manage to get him to sleep in his basket.

I have no life and need advice as to whether this is normal and what I can do to make him sleep during the day. I was happy getting up in the night with him and am not too bothered whether he sleeps through or not.....I just want at least an hour of the day to myself to shower and do household tasks Sad

This is so, so normal for this age. Around three months it starts getting better. Keep trying with putting him down for naps, even if it doesn't work. It will eventually sink in.

My DS was like this and lucky me is now re-living it with 7 and a half week old DD. Grin

Oh, and the 6-10pm screaming? Totally textbook, too. Again, should calm down by 3 months, if not sooner.

We once took dd to the emergency dr cos of the 6-10pm screaming - how dumb were we! Had the same with both dds - it does get better surprisingly quickly - is there anyone else who could take him out in pram for an hour if he'll sleep in that to give you a break?

It sounds completely normal - sorry!

Will he sleep in the pram?

I had to get dh to leave lunch in the fridge for me.

It will pass, honestly.

Oh, and no matter how tired he is, your dh needs to take him for a wee while while you get a bath/whatever.

My dd 14 weeks has been doing this for the past 2 weeks or so. She is teething and/or growing very fast. She is asleep now (yay! hence the MNing)
