Would you let a 20 month old play alone in their bedroom?

With a safety gate at the door while you are on the same floor doing housework etc? I did this today for a few minutes when I was tidying but kept getting worried about him climbing on furniture and it falling on him! I get quite anxious about safety issues and always seem to be thinking about what accidents could happen. We don't have furniture straps on the furniture as the wall seems impossible to drill into. Am I being paranoid?

I quite often do this - DS2 is 22 mo and follows me round like a sheep. If I am getting dressed/ready in my bedroom and am fed up of him being under my feet, I quite often tell him to go and play in DS1's bedroom (he has all the toys/books) for a bit which he does.

Never really thought about the safety issues Blush

DS3 often tottles off to his bedroom to play if I'm busy doing housework. His bedroom is free of anything that would be of harm and I make sure all the doors are closed apart from his so he can't sneak into the toilet to flush things.

Yes I do, although small house, I am never really far away.

I wouldn't, but my DD has a huge chest of drawers in her room that she has opened each drawer of (at the same time).

Yes.

I have a feeling I'm being a bit overly anxious about this, I really don't want to be! When I was little I pulled a wardrobe onto me and I think I must be haunted by it! (obviously very little chance of this happening)

of course, I wouldn't have got anything done otherwise.

Slightly different, but I put my 20 month old in the living room to watch cbeebies while I get his breakfast ready. I shut the door to the spare room and shut the stair gates to the upper and lower floors. I can hear him easily and pop my head up every now and then and, touch wood, haven't had any problems.

Depends on the room and what's in it. At that age, I had the livingroom organised so that I felt it was safe and used that as a big playpen.

Firawla · 30/09/2010 10:42
