Made a bit of a hash of cutting ds's hair... what should boys hair look like?!

Ds is 2. He had nice longish fringe but dh commented he was looking a bit bowl-y/monk-y. So I cut his hair this morning (shorter at back and sides, but fringe still longish). i think he needs a shorter fringe but he obviously won't let me have another go yet...

I cut dd's hair all the time, just given her a cute bob again, so not a complete novice. Boys hair is hard! But refuse/can't afford to spend £10 getting it done)

Could do with some pics of boys hair to help! What do you think are nice boys hair styles? He is blonde and blue-eyed so nothing too posh and pageboy. We are more boho scruffy but long hair is obviously out (as have cut it already)

Any ideas? Thanks

could you post a pic of what you have done so we know what we are working with? no pressure, i don't want you to out yourself if you don't want to.

it costs £3.60 to get my ds's hair cut at the local barber shop and he gets a lollipop from them afterwards too (and some hairgel!!) He is nearly 4.

I agree, worth paying a barber. £5 here but smoe do charge up to £11... so worth shopping around.

I ask for an old fashioned boys hair cut, no clippers and think it looks fine!

I cut DSs hair once, told everyone he'd managed to cut a bit himself so I had to tidy it up but he wouldn't sit still!
It was awful, DH ended up taking him to the barber cos I couldn't face it!

It used to cost us £9 for DH and DS both to get their hair cut, now its gone up and costs £9 just for DH and £6 for DS! Shock

I use hair clippers on my lad. I leave it slightly longer on the top and shorter at the back and sides - very easy and takes 2 or 3 mins so he doesn't squiggle much.

arfasleep · 26/09/2010 09:32

Yes, i use clippers too, get an all over trim so no bowl cuts here Grin would not be brave enough to try scissors. But, I would love my ds to go to barbers, no hair all over place to clean up, but he refuses & just wants me to do it

arfasleep · 26/09/2010 09:35

If he'll let you do fringe, if using scissors, would say make sure & cut holding hair straight up (if that makes sense) so get a wee bit layered and not blunt fringe

Adair · 27/09/2010 07:34

Thanks all, did a few more bits and trimmed fringe slightly (is kinda layered yes) and looks fine now... bit odd... but then I think all 2 year old hair looks a bit odd (no-one said they noticed yesterday at family do).

Will let dh take him to barbers next time Grin
