Buggy solutions for 3yr and new baby ?

Am due next may with second baby and Ds will be 3 and 5mths. Will I need to get a double buggy ?

I'm really hoping not as I already have a buggy which is very nice and clean now (excitedly cleaning it whilst trying to concieve - very sad emotion) ! Has anyone used those platform thingys from mothercare and are they any good ?

Cheers !! :o

at that age ds should be able to walk quite a bit.
maybe get him a balance bike, so that you don*t have to walk so slowly.
ds was just 3 when dd was born and he loves his balance bike. hardly ever goes in the buggy now, sometimes I take dd in the sling so he can sit for a moment. but I prefer him to walk (and he is getting quite good at it!).

ah thanks for replying, he does walk quite a bit now, albeit very slowly ! The bike idea is great and maybe a treat for getting a new brother or sister.

That really makes me feel better, I wasn't sure if it was a bit much to expect him to walk everwhere. We don't do much long distance stuff anyways...

Buggy boards are brilliant for this age. They can jump on and off when they are tired and take up no extra room.

I can highly recommend the Bugaboo Bee with a Bugaboo Buggy Board. The buggy folds up really small and my dd loves the buggy board.

Lots of things you can do to avoid a double buggy: get a sling for baby so DS doesn't have to give up his buggy, buggyboard - there are a few of different sizes even one that you can sit on, buggypod, or a buggy with a removable toddler seat like the icandy

sweetkitty · 22/09/2010 16:29

You shouldn't need one at that age TBH I would probably invest in a sling you can stick the baby in if the toddler us having a tantrum but I would save the money don't buy a double (says she who has had four doubles)

Thanks for the replies, I have a sling so I think I'm all sorted really from the advice on here. So hard to imagine how its going to work, but feel better after reading these. Now will stop worrying ! Cheers :o

Does your eldest have a scooter? If so, let him use the scooter most of the time you're out and get a buggy board for when he's tired (you do have to adjust how you walk abit when you have a buggyboard with child on behind the buggy so best to try and restrict use of it).

You need a mini micro it will safe your life and like my children (I imagine) will make the need for a buggy for the older one redundant.
My dd who is 2 next week has been out of her buggy since July as I can pull her along on the scooter with ease and it is possible even when pushing a buggy.

I also used a tricotti sling followed by a babyhawk right up until recently.

3 next week duh

A double buggy for a three and a half year old?! >
Get a mini micro - very swift and stable, and light to carry if he wants to walk. My DDs both had them from just before they were 3.

Buggy boards are a PITA and will make the buggy very heavy to push unless your child is very tiny for his age (and no matter how light he seems now, it will be like lifting an elephant once you have a dinky newborn Grin).

MrsTittleMouse · 23/09/2010 10:03

I used a baby carrier at first, and then when porky DD2 got too heavy I used a buggy board. Pushing with the buggy board is definitely not as easy as pushing without, but it was a small price to pay to stop DD1 whining that her legs were too tired and could I carry her? Grin Also, it was seen by DD1 as a cool toy, so she didn't mind being pushed out of the pushchair for DD2 to use it.
