Dummy or not?

DD2 is 3 months and breastfed. At night, she starts off the night in her moses basket and then comes in with me when she wakes up- for a while this wasn't til 3am but lately it's been creeping forward to midnight, sometimes before Confused. She then pretty much feeds on and off all night, but the problem is she seems to be using me a dummy and will only actually sleep with my boob in her mouth! Often she wakes up, roots around for the nipple, then as soon as she's got it falls back to sleep without actually feeding.

I was determined not to give her a dummy as DD1 developed a bit of a dummy addiction - at one point she had to have one in her mouth and one in each hand! She still has one at night now at 2.5 yo. But now my resolve with DD2 is weakening... would it help her sleep longer in her moses basket, do you think? Do you reckon I could manage to restrict it to just nighttime?

I just need some sleep! I never sleep as well with the baby in bed with me.

Our DD had a dummy, my sister got it for her when she was about 10 days old. Initially my face would have looked like this Hmm, after a couple of nights it would be more like this Grin. DD was FF, not sure if that makes any difference. She only had them at night, we were very strict about that. Give it a go, you've nothing to lose.

Babies need to suck, it's just the way we are made! If you have a particularly sucky baby you either let them suck on you or substitute you for a dummy. Don't see why you can't restrict it to bedtime and get rid by 12 months.

Plus, apparently using a dummy at the beginning of each sleep session reduces SIDS.

I wish my ds would take a dummy but he won't Angry

My ES didn't have a dummy and I was delighted cos' I hate them. He didn't want one. Happy enough without.

Then my YS came along and was an horrendous baby. We gave him a dummy after 2 weeks of no sleep for longer than 20 mins. Wow. It was brill.

If you give your baby a dummy and they want one - they will use it. They will spit itbout if they don't.

My YS only had it a sleepy time. He is 2 and still has one at night. I shall worry about the dummy removal next year...
