So we've been mentioning the dummy fairy to DS (3.4) for a while now and dp and I working out when would be the best time for her to visit!
Anyway, DS saw advertised these Buzz Lightyear wings that pop up and thought they were amazing. So I (crazy lady) piped up what if the dummy fairy brought them for you. Would you put them in a special box for her to take away? He said yes and seems to understand that the dummies will be gone forever.

I feel a bit guilty stopping the dummy. He seems to love it and is growing up so fast in so many ways.
I'm starting to realise that before I know it he'll be starting school. How time flys.Sad

Wish us luck with the dummy free bed time!

Good luck!!!

I did this with my DS with a Woody toy funnily enough! Worked wonders and have never looked back!!

To infinity and beyond!

Good luck!

We used Buzz Lightyear too!
He did not have a dummy but used to suck the musical pull bit on a teddy. We cut that off and said it had to go to his new baby cousin.

He was about 3 yrs 6 mths and I think this helped as he understood more that was going on. Very quickly adapted within a night or two and has coped with it all very well.

I hope the same happens for you.

Thanks for your support. He was in bed at 7 and come down again at 8 for a bit of cereal and a chat then seems to be quiet now.

Good luck, watching with interest as DD1 who has just turned two is off to bed with THREE dummies tonight, she has already agreed to give them to santa but going to start trying to hide them so she only has one!

Hope your DS enjoys his new Buzz! :)

The dummy fairy is an astonishing thing. DD happily gave all (20 odd) to her for the baby fairy's in exchange for a pink dog and two DVD's. It all went swimmingly until bedtime when we found her on the floor shouting under her bed. It took her about a week to fully get over the trauma though.

Yes, dd was happy with the idea but then panicked at bedtime as she didn't know how to get to sleep!! IN our house, the dummy fairy (who was an actual doll who appeared in place of the dummy) brought the dummy back on the first night - and we spent a couple of weeks building up her confidence in going to sleep without (holding it, mentioning it a lot if she woke up without it) and then went pretty well. Think she was a little younger than your ds.
OP, sounds like your ds coped well - hope he is enjoying his Buzz! (My dd's was a music box Grin)

We did it a couple of weeks ago (dd1, 2.10) it has worked like a dream. We have had a bit of grumbling & only one serious strop when she fell over, but she got lots of cuddles instead. Wish we'd done it sooner as the dentist says her teeth are already pushed forwards. Hope it went well!

Its been 3 wks now (I think)and he's never asked for the dummies.
He takes a little longer to get to sleep some nights and has woken in morning a bit earlier than he used to but nothing we can't cope with.
He asked lots of detailed questions about the dummy fairy. Where she lives, what she eats, how she gets the dummies, will his friends new baby have his dummies, etc etc
So in hindsight given that he is over 3 it may not have been necessary to tell him about a dummy fairy. He probably would have just been happy to give up his dummies for the toy. Now he's a "big boy" and all!? Wink

Well done, hope ours goes as well!

I am thinking of waiting until christmas when DS1 will be 3.8, we are already talking about it with hime now. DS2 doesn't have dummies so when they are gone, they are gone! I bought 2 yesterday as his were getting sticky but they will definitely be the last ones - gulp! He only has them just before bed time and gives them back in the morning (has about 3 at once!)
