Hi so i took dd to play at the sure start center on friday and hv came over for a chat and when i revealed dd was still drinking around 4 9oz bottles of cows milk a day she said this was far to much and should cut down to around 2 8oz bottles.

Now i know this is alot of milk but dd has never had a dummy so when shes upset or tired the first thing she wants is her bottle i guess she uses this as her comfort. Dd knows where the milk is kept and if we dont give it her she throws a tantrum and waits for the next opportunity to get to the fridge to bang on it. Its not affecting her eating she has 3 meals a day and snacks on fruit, breadsticks or cheese.

She is a chunky little thing but the last hv we seen at 12 months said the same untill she measured her height then said she probably needed all she was drinking as shes a big un.
Any advice you have on how to tackle cutting it down would be great or can i carry on letting her drink?

I would suggest you stick with the morning and evening bottles - maybe cut down to 7oz though and then swap the other two bottles for beakers - they tend to drink a lot less from a beaker. Or during the day maybe just give 5 oz in the bottle. Another thought - if you are effectively using the bottle kind of like a dummy alternative, could you offer the bottle in with water instead? I wouldn't worry too much about it though

Yep, use a beaker. Could you try diluting the milk? If she is using it as a comfort rather than being super hungry the beaker would work I think.

I would dilute the milk to start with (especially if it's full-fat) to reduce the tantrums, and definitely try the move to an open (not sippy) cup - she may like to use the sort of cup mummy uses and the novelty value will help.
