Would you buy second hand reusable nappies?
I found some that a lady was selling 7 for £10. Online new they are £8. My mum says I shouldn't buy them but I don't see any problem. What do you think?

Cheers gem

From what i've seen I think a lot of people are happy to buy them. If they are the wrap kind, you could buy them and chuck away the kind of insert bit and then you only need to buy half a nappy?

gem3225 · 12/09/2010 17:00

Thanks, that's exactly it, you get the inserts and that's what you chuck away. You can also get cash back from your local council as an incentive to use them too . Think it's a good option. Thanks for advice

I got a whole bag of Tots Bots nappies for DD from Freecycle- it's saved us a fortune! They were in good enough condition, they came up fine after a good wash.

What's freecycle? Is it a local scheme?

There are local groups in most areas, it's an email list you sign up to where people offer things that they no longer want (but mainly it's full of chancers trying to get a free wide screen telly). I have seen quite a few people offering second hand nappies on my local group. Here's the website- www.uk.freecycle.org/

Wow that's cool. Thanks so much , every little helps I guess

Thanks again

Many people buy second hand reusable nappies, myself included. When you buy them just wash them on a 60 wash to get rid of any germs or detergent from the previous user and they will be fine! Most nappies i have bought from other people have been very clean and most people online put pictures up of the nappies so you can see them before you buy.

Ive never seen any nappies on freecycle but they are not all that popular in my area but id def go for it if i did :)

gem3225 · 14/09/2010 11:34

thanks for that, yes im going to and also im going to get the free starter packs from my local council too. Cant quite believe im thinking of nappies already as im only 4 months gone!!

i would and did. As someone else said just wash them on a hot wash without detergent to clean them through and then you can do a nother hot wash with nappysan just to be sure in your mind that they are clean.
I have a box of 2 part newborn size nappies if you are interested, I don't want anything for them just would be glad to see them go to a home where they will be used again.
at least 10 nappies and about 7 wraps all in various prints/colours, anppies all white ones.

gem3225 · 16/09/2010 05:45

Thanks again x

Hi gem,

EDD is 31 Jan - but i'm hoping to eek it into Feb - further away from Christmas for birthdays the better IMO.

What about you when are due?

And i'll let you know how i get on with nappies, going in 2 weeks time!

gem3225 · 18/09/2010 09:58

Hi cupcake, my due date march 9th, so bit longer to wait.
Your right though, my birthday is 11jan and it's a tad close to Xmas.

I got 7motherease one size, 8 Sandys nappies plus 200 liners and a few outer covers and nappy bucket for £21yesterday so quite chuffed.

Allluckedout said she may have some to give away to so that would be great.

Happy days xx

Hello, I'm bumping this thread as would also be interested to hear about anyone's experiences of second-hand reusable nappies!

ChutesTooNarrow · 12/10/2010 21:45

Nearly all my nappies are second hand (some I think are third or fourth hand!). I was aware before I started using cloth that no one nappy was going to do everything for all ages, shapes and sizes. So I started buying up second hand so I could experiment. I originally thought I would buy new once I had found some nappies that suited but I have carried on buying second hand, mainly from here. My absolute favourite nappy I have to buy second hand as Blueberry side-snaps were discontinued last year.

Every nappy I have bought has been in really good condition. I only buy if there is a photo. The only issue I have is I find I sometimes have to wash them more than once to be sure all traces of detergent is gone - but this is because my DS is a sensitive soul who flares up if wearing something washed in anything other than soapnuts.
