Baby scared of bathing

My son is now a month old - he is terrified of having a bath and screams so loudly. Any tips on stopping him becoming so scared? I would appreciate them.

Go in the bath with him.

Seriously, we started this with completely freaked out DS1 who is now 7. My DH now regularly has baths with 4 boys in the tub with him (yes, it is a big bath Grin).

I don't do baths, am a shower kind of gal.

Or you could just top and tail him; babies that age do not get dirty and do not need regular baths anyway.

Stop bathing him! Seriously, small babies don't really need that many baths. Just "top & tail" him for a while.

I think it's a stage all tiny babies go through. If you stick with it (tho do agree tinies don't need a bath every day) you'll be shocked when one time you put him in and he is quiet!

It is lovely to get in with them, my ds2 used to have a lovely nightime feed in the bath, it was a way of getting more into him. He'd drink loads, get sleepy, then getting him out and dressed would wake him enough to then get him to drink loads more when I was settling him.

Having a bath together is ace - I started when DS wanted milk when I was having a bath, and 4 years later we both still love hanging out in the bath together.

Hold him close on your chest to keep him warm, and just gently wash with your hand

My dd used to scream uncontrollably when having a bath at this age. I was using a baby bath with shallow water as I felt it was probably safer. I was given excellent advice by the midwife - you may or may not already be doing this - but she told me to have the water quite deep so it covered more of dd. She calmed down straight away & seemed to find being more immersed in the water quite relaxing. HTH Smile.

Thanks for all the advice - have been doing a mixture of topping/tailing him and bathed a few times in a washing up bowl as smaller (thought he might feel safer) and also did it in the morning - he didn't seem quite as scared. I might try going in the bath with him when I next think he needs some washing! :)
