Considering full-time education

Hello all,

I'm currently looking into how I can leave my miserable job and go into full-time education to finally do my degree. However, I have read some of your posts and I honestly don't know how I'm going to cope on £12,000 when my currrent income is over 3 times that.

I'm a single parent, with no savings and a huge mortage (and negative equity so can't sell or downsize to raise funds). I'm starting to think that going to uni is not within my reach since I committed myself to all these financial obligations.

Also, all of that put aside but still on finances: I have checked and even with a railcard discount, my monthly travel expense would be £186!!! (the uni is a good 38 miles from my home).

So, my question is: how do you cope?

Thank you ever so much in advance!

Just how miserable is this job if you're earning £36k??? BTW what is this job that pays so much without requiring a degree??! Could you PT or freelance to add to funds + don't think students pay income tax :) Many Unis have independant finance advisors - it's maybe worth you popping along to have a word.

Also as many often say to us skint folk - well you cut your cloth..... (some oldie fashioned saying) basically saying you manage on what you have. In the same vein I suppose if you have more you managed on that therefore.... could you see where you could make economies? Do you have a frugal life? I know when I've had decently paying jobs that made me miserable I frantically overcompensated by constantly "treating myself" If you were doing what you want to do could you live simpler, less takeaways, new clothes etc etc
