Swim nappies - confused...

Very stupidly I am very confused about what type of nappy I need for my DD who is going swimming for the first time next week. I got a swim nappy from John Lewis because it was reduced. It is lined with towelling. Is that enough to contain solids? Do I need to get a disposable swim nappy to wear underneath or a reusable swim nappy like one of the splash about ones as well? Aaagh...

If the fit is snug the reusable one should be fine, I would have them wear swimming shorts or cozzie too, just be sure!

it depends on where you are taking DD swimming. Our council pool is happy with a swim nappy, either reusable as you describe or a disposable one.
But I took DDs to Waterbabies and they insist on a double nappy system so you have to have a splash about nappy plus either a disposable or a reusable underneath. Nothing will escape from a splash about !
If a baby poos in the pool they have to get everyone out the pool and cancel all the classes so works out very expensive. I've had my class cancelled at the last minute as a baby was very sick and they had to empty the pool Sad
I'd call the pool and check on their requirements.

we have always just used either a reuseable or a disposable but have always put a costume on top as well

Just a tip: If you use a disposable underneath a Splash About nappy, they can be reused several times, if they are not dirty. I just hang them up to dry. Smile

Disposable swim nappies are the work of greedy marketing persons and no actual use at all! Please please don't use them! Lined cloth swim nappies will do exactly the same job but won't cost you a fortune or ruin the environment.

SmacsGonePotty · 03/09/2010 20:28

Yes Tabitha I do the same. I rinse them out in clean water and let them dry and reuse them. Someone told me you could put them in the machine but that didn't work for me! I know that Waterbabies is a franchise so maybe the rules are different in different areas but when I started with DD1 they had to wear a disposable swim nappy then splash about on top but the rules have changed now I'm taking DD2 and it is a reusable or disposable then splash about on top.

Thank you everyone! Much clearer now. Have now got a Splash About too.

do you actually need another nappy under a splash about?

LeslieWinkle · 12/09/2010 20:41

Eggy - Strictly speaking no, but if baby does a poop then getting the splash about off is not pretty.

Really. Not. Pretty. Grin

AnnieLobeseder - do you mean something like this www.teamlollipop.co.uk/shop/bright-bots-swim-nappy-1556-0.html under the splash about when you say lined cloth nappies or could you recommend another brand that works really well.

Thanks

I use a bumgenius outer, nothing in the pocket under the splashabout, works brilliantly Grin
