Mattresses

Right, I know the advice is a new mattress for each baby but is this only for the first bed ie moses basket or for the cot too? We spent quite a bit on dd1's cot mattress and wondered what people think about using it in dd2's cot too? I am tempted as it seems in good condition and is definately better than the one in dd1's cot at the moment (which is an RAF one as we are in the services overseas). We were about to but a new one and then wondered if we really need to. What do you think??? It has a washable cover if this makes any difference. Thanks.

There was a similar thread to this the other day and I think the general advice was that it's only 2nd hand matresses you should renew. It's okay for siblings to share the same matress.

I may be wrong though!!!!

this is what the sids website says:

What kind of mattress should I use?

It doesn?t matter whether the mattress is new, as long as it?s firm, not soft, doesn?t sag and shows no sign of deterioration. Keep it well aired, clean and dry. Use a mattress completely covered with PVC or another wipe-clean surface. Ventilated mattresses (with holes) are not necessary. Place your baby with their feet to the foot of the cot. Never sleep your baby on a pillow, cushion, bean bag or water bed. Never sleep together with your baby on a sofa or settee
