Daft q re baby carriers

I'm sure this is daft question, but we're off to Cornwall on hol with our baby son next week, planning on going on lots of walks, so we've got a baby carrier (babybjorn type thing). It fits brilliantly, he seems very happy in it (he's 5 weeks old btw).

However, how do you protect them from the elements in them? When he's in his pram obviously i use raincover/sunshade, so what do you do in a carrier? I have a sun hat i'll slap on, but obviously this will leave his little arms/legs exposed, and don't want him totally covered up with clothes because he might get too hot! And what do you do if when it rains?

Do tell me if i'm overthinking this, i'm a bit new to all this. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much unless the sun is blazing down, which I find a little bit unlikely in september!

The sun is in fact good because it helps the production of vitamin D, vital for good bone development. Many people in the UK are deficient in this vitamin because of the lack of sun.

Of course that does not mean that children should get sun burnt - there is a happy medium between protecting against the sun and allowing the sun to give it's natural benefit!

If it rains, I usually wrap my raincoat over my child in the sling.

Umbrella/parasol

I often thought it would be really usedful if there was a summer version of a snowsuit for wet summer days. It doesn't really matter if they get damp, as long as they are warm and you've got a change of dry clothes.

If blazing hot, then solar clothing, or other light-weight /close weave clothes to cover up.

The heat from your body will keep him warm and, at 5 weeks, there won't be very much of him outwith the carrier! Long sleeves and trousers will protect from the sun. Keep your arms round him to keep off rain or pull your jacket round him. Good excuse for a cuddle!

Have a lovely holiday!
