I am just wondering if anyone has any tips to help me! My son is a very very active 8 months old boy....constantly on his feet and very nearly walking!! Basically I am having a nightmare at nappy change times as he will NOT lie still.... he rolls over.... screams.....there is poo and wee everywhere and it is just totally unpleasant. There must be a solution.....right?????!!! I am dreading nappy change times!!!!! ANYONE ELSE FINDING THE SAME?????

lie child down, sit on your own bum, use your feet to gently pin childs arms down, leaving one hand free to hold legs, the other for wipes etc, have fun Smile

KickArseQueen · 29/08/2010 00:24

frizbe, thats exactly what I was about to post! Its the only way! Was very funny when my HV saw me do that with my ds ( her son is the same age ) she watched me change him and said her ds had been wiping poo all over the carpet she uses the same method now.

If you combine the above with a pull up nappy it can make it even quicker. Good Luck :)

thanks....feel silly posting this but really am at the end of my tether!

Oh, it's hard and awful when they start this. I hate to say it but my ds2 now 14months is STILL doing it and he's very strong. Holding them down with legs is the only way!! I HATE nappy changes, pull ups are easier when putting on, but not when taking off with poo in!!

KickArseQueen · 29/08/2010 10:09

mamasunshine, you do know to rip the sides of the pull ups when taking them off? it opens them up like a normal nappy?

:)

Get one of these solves everything:

Best £20 I spent Grin

Witchcat · 29/08/2010 10:38

Mellymooks that is fab.

Wish i had one with son he did this and my Husband refused to do nappies as he was fed up of runing after son everytime.

DS being naked with pooy bum and weeing on the floor with shouts of "Mummy he got away again and peed on the floor can you come help please"!

I'm so going to get one of these for DC2 Grin

mamasunshine · 29/08/2010 10:59

Blush Grin I have used scissors but that was a palava!

mellymooks · 29/08/2010 11:01

It really is brill and the straps are super adjustable so fits them for ages and ages, I've only ever used it on the floor as a means of keeping them still rather than a "safety" reason to prevent rolling, it works an absolute treat.

KickArseQueen · 29/08/2010 20:53

LOL! Grin

MrsMc82 · 29/08/2010 22:40

That mat0 looks fab, but have visions our very determined ds (7mo) just rolling over with the mat attached to him.......or could that not happen?

chippy47 · 29/08/2010 22:43

Get a grip.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/08/2010 22:50

Have you tried giving him something to hold and look at while you change him? Or a snack?

I find DS2 will lie still just long enough if he's eating a biscuit or looking at a board book.

KickArseQueen · 30/08/2010 00:12

Wink I always have a good grip chippy :)

YanknCock · 30/08/2010 01:26

I find giving DS random objects to hold helps. Also positive reinforcement seems to be working well at the moment too. 'Such a gooooooooood boy holding still for mummy! Aren't you a lovely clever boy holding still!' etc etc etc until the sound of my own voice makes me want to slap myself. But it works (sometimes).

sparklycheerymummy · 30/08/2010 23:52

I do give him things to hold and that can interest him for a few minutes but I have to change him on the floor .... the changing table is too risky now.....and i have a bad back and he is sooooo heavy....28lbs at 8 months.....it can take a while simply because of my back.

;love the look of that mat thing......it may well be the way forward.....just have to work on convincing dp we REALLY need it!!

Get a grip....eh...do you mean get a grip of my son or of myself????? If it is the latter....not sure why you are on here.....this is a website where parents ask each other for advice.

oh my god my ds is 15 months and has been an absoloute nightmare since he could roll. i hate nappy change time. sometimes it makes me want to cry because i know it is going to take so long and be very messy.

definitely going to try these tips out tomorrow.

booyhoo · 30/08/2010 23:58

yes biscuits are the only thing that works for us but he wolfs them down so fast and then gets cross at me for not having another one ready. bad mummy that i am.

sparklycheerymummy · 31/08/2010 00:04

ha ha booyhoo.....thats another one I might try .....he is still young enough to spend a minute or two playing with a crisp....healthy organic baby one of course!!!! LOL!!!!

sparklycheerymummy · 31/08/2010 00:05

booyhoo · 31/08/2010 00:05

of course Wink no such thing as a jammy dodger...er um...what is a jammy dodger anyway? Blush

carebear321 · 31/08/2010 00:14

my DD at 10 months is exactly like this, I usually get DS or DH to hold her hands to distract her. Or do what frizbe suggested, if I'm on my own.

sparklycheerymummy · 31/08/2010 00:17

My dd is 8 and a fab helper but I hate dragging her away from what she is doing just to help me.....I am always nagging her for help! booyho.....I have never heard of Jammy dodgers (shhhhh I have really.....but ds prefers choc digestives.....shhhhh dont tell anyone!)

booyhoo · 31/08/2010 00:25

oh my god yes, poor ds1 (5) has to stand at his head and sing and dance while i wrestle with him to try and get as little poo on me as possible.

onceamai · 31/08/2010 00:36

had the problem a long time ago with eldest son. Once he was standing used to wedge him up against the activity arch in front of a jolly video and do the whole thing with him standing up and contained with me behind him! The only problem was that once he was potty trained my exercise became limited and boy the weight was hard to control!
