Hi, could sure use some MN expertise. I bought some bamboo terries but they look HUGE after folding. Would I probably have to wait a month or two before using these and get some smaller ones or if I nappy nippa and tuck folds in properly will they be ok?

Depends on the starting size of your newborn (big difference between a 6lb something and a 9lb something). Do you have a rough weight idea? Or how tall are you and what dress size were you? I often find this roughly equates to birth weight. A 9lb+ baby can rapidly get to 12-14lb in 3 or 4 weeks and by then they'll not seem bulky, whereas a 6lb-er can take 3-4 months.

I'd suggest start with the origami fold as it comes up neater, and smaller, see what you think? Or you could try a few smaller - these will last most babies till about a year, then you can use them as night time boosters.

Hi Ariela, thanks for your reply.
It was the origami fold that I tried, not sure what size LO will be as am only 25 weeks Blush Just wanted to be prepared, that's all

I'm 6'7" size 12. I have got some newborn pampers just for the first week till I get my head around reusables and also have some totbots size 1 so am prepared for tiny baby. I guess I get what you're trying to say is that it's not something I can plan but just to wait and see? It's my first can't you tell?! Wink

Hi, I have several 60cm flat terries that I use for changing mat liners, and general purpose mopping cloths. I suggest you wait 'til baby arrives and when you get into the swing of using cloth nappies make the judgement then whether you need anything smaller or not. My boy was 7lb 7oz when born, I waited until his umbilical had dropped off and healed before starting using cloth nappies, so he was about 3 weeks old, by then he was nearly 11lb weight as he grew so fast, the little newborn sandies I had bought were unnecessary. I have a couple of 50cm flat nappies which I never really used, they are a little small even for mat liners. In hindsight I wouldn't have bought the small ones.

Is that 5ft 7? I'd suggest that at term yours will be 8-9lbish (room to grow).

Maybe if you're worried about them being too big, buy some 50cm and don't wash them, keep them unwashed (or just wash one to try) till you see the baby then you can either wash and use them or send them back. Some sellers have good return policies where you can keep things a while. Or buy a few msulins, these can be folded down from 80cm to fit and dry very quickly so ideal for the first few weeks, and they can then be used for burp cloths etc after that.

bubsMaw: Thanks for sharing your experience, am slowing learning with this and lots of other pregnancy related issues that I should just not plan too much and go with the flow :)

Ariela: yes sorry I meant 5ft 7, I am not a giant (sorry blame that error on my preggers brain) I think will do as you suggest and get some smaller cotton terrys and even if I don't really use them as nappies, they'll do for cloths which I'm sure I'll need lots of, thank you again! :)
